Pros
Everyone seems really lovely and accommodating in the initial stages of employment.
Cons
Depending on the store you're in - "culture" means something different to each person and you need to nail it for an individual or you will be badmouthed and bullied. Most stores view culture as a free feed every week, free coffee, free candy, saying "well done" too much and too often that it completely loses its meaning, getting a pat on the back just for coming into work. Its bazaar. And everyone still complains that they aren't getting enough. The leaders all dislike the team, the team dislike the leaders and everyone dislikes everyone, but they all pretend to be friends. I don't think that I saw anyone truly happy to be working there. The hours are terrible, 5am - midnight depending on the shift, you don't get a rotating roster as a leader and you can work a close and then have to open the following day. The EBA or GRA rules "don't apply" to you when you're on salary as the leaders all just accept that for some reason. There are "good" stores and "bad" stores, the good stores just have more relaxed leaders and team that know what they are doing to hold everything together. The "bad" stores are literally nightmare fueling. You cant be yourself, you need to be fake and constantly "happy" even when you are being given multiple directions that make no sense and all contradict the previous directive. The business itself is owned by Wesfarmers, so they are super profit based, which means you will need to do more with less, except the "culture" in Bunnings is to throw money (staff) at a problem instead of creating a well trained and efficient workforce. No team members want to work harder or be given directive or coaching to become more efficient and in turn, help themselves with the workload that Wesfarmers is moving into. So if you are actually passionate about improving on business, you will be shunned and spoken badly of. The onboarding process is disgusting - sit yourself in front of a screen and work through modules. There is no "buddy" system, no one to show you the ropes at all. And when you arent joining in on the "banter" that can last for hours and hours because you actually need to be getting work done, your bullied out of the business.
