Pros
Amazing flexibility for students, decent pay and some benefits but most go unused
Cons
Pretty corporate at times. Experience varies greatly depending on the location of your cafe.
Pros
The knowledge that I accomplished as a person in charge was very useful within the business management background.
Cons
High levels in lack of training being required by the company, incapacity from area managers and low pay in wages.
Pros
Low entry requirement, some training for making coffee, get to meet a lot of customer to experience life, opportunity to take over time to earn more, has online training platform to review making coffee and learn other skills, unlimited hot coffee on the house, generally good team spirit. Company claims 85% of the store manager starting from the barista level 1, opportunity to advance in career.
Cons
Very low pay and lack of benefit that cannot sustain life in London, have quota to meet, although can request working hours, the store is constantly lack of staff that there are times (although rarely) have to close the store at 9:30pm then open the store at 5:30a.m, what is on the training may operate differently in the actual store, sometimes so understaffed that cannot train/explain to new employees for the store specific things, no paid leaves (AL or SL), no paid breaks but mandatory be in the store during the assigned hour.
Pros
There's space and opportunities to practice your skills in being a good barista. Work mates are usually very helpful and are also trying their best despite tiring settings.
Cons
We were understaffed most of the time, and the reason given to us was that we needed to hit a certain amount of sales to hire extra support. While it is understandable, the number of people coming into the store does not depend on us but on the marketing and location. The number of people per shift is very small, and with that, we were all constantly sick or poorly—all that while being paid under a living wage salary.
Pros
Great management and team, fair pay
Cons
Rotas not always given far in advance
Pros
free coffee while on shift
Cons
low pay, no trust or care for employees, constantly asked to work overtime without getting paid
Pros
Great team, fair pay and hours
Cons
Not paid for work overtime
Pros
Decent pay and opportunity to move up
Cons
Management is the type to run their best workers into the ground instead of getting rid of employees who aren’t doing their job
Pros
Team, Easy going company if with right people
Cons
Salary or hourly pay is awful compared to other company, Area and Regional manager can be really annoying and put too much pressure for not important things, level of stress is high
Pros
Wages (only because I’m required to put something)
Cons
Working in a toxic workplace. If you’re not a manager, the company doesn’t care about you. You get told to upsell certain items, that ultimately get the store manager a bonus, you don’t get anything, if you don’t upsell, you get a disciplinary. Area managers will talk badly about the store staff, always side with the store manager. If you have an issue you need to go straight to HR to get any response. You get guilt tripped into working, if you are sick, they will make you feel bad for not being able to work. Most of the time, you won’t get any support if you want to progress in the company. When I worked there, I didn’t get paid for the job I did, I did more work than the manager, cover shifts, fixed problems, and when I left, the area manager decided to talk badly about me, saying that the store runs better now that I’m gone. Just after I left, they made it mandatory to upsell an optional item, if you fail to sell enough of it, you get a disciplinary, for context, the item is Optional! Costs extra, not everyone wants it, so you can try your hardest to sell it, but will still get written up. Regional managers, Area managers and store managers don’t care about anyone below them, you’ll have an easier time going to the assistant manager if you have any issues. Store managers get bonuses, special events, and even chances to win cars, all why the store members do all the work for them. The fact I have seen multiple people over the years leave because of management, and not a single manager has been questioned on this. Any bad review targeted towards a store managers tends to get ignored, but if you get one as a staff member, you’ll have a meeting about it. I put “Wages” in pros, but I don’t think that the pay is even worth it with the amount of mental abuse to get, how poorly you are treated by customers and management. The company will also hide things from you that you have full legal right to know, they prioritise “favourite” members of staff. Considering this company’s net worth is over half a billion. You can barely get by. While managers get paid a salary, which is way more than hourly pay, for doing the same job. The only manager job they actually do, is get staff to do the work for them while they enjoy the perks. You get no form of bonus, or benefits for working for them.
