      Sinking ship throwing people overboard

      Anonymous employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      The whole company is remote

      Cons

The company is a sinking ship that is way behind on its goals and struggling with many product and financial issues. Because of that, tension has been extremely high with lots of pressure and changing expectations from leadership and middle management. To avoid layoffs, managers have been pushing people out left and right and people keep disappearing and getting mysteriously fired. There's been a huge churn in employees in early 2025 with several executives and leaders fired and pushed out suddenly without explanation to the broader company. Team culture can be hit or miss, but in general, people in the engineering organization are under an extreme amount of pressure and have a hard time using their unlimited PTO. The compensation and benefits do not outweigh the toxic work environment and lack of job security especially since there's little room to grow once you start. Although the company preaches "feel good" messaging on culture, DEI, and growth, those qualities are not present in the workplace. The policies and guidelines set are not enforced and can actually be used against you at times when it's convenient for the company. Don't be fooled about the best culture awards they pay to receive.

Chaotic Leadership, No Direction, and Constant Attrition

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Competitive pay, solid benefits, and the ability to work from home are the only real positives. The onboarding process is smooth and gives a false sense of stability before reality sets in.

      Cons

Crunchbase suffers from chronic indecision and a complete lack of communication from leadership. There’s no clear vision, and priorities shift weekly depending on who’s talking the loudest. Leadership ego drives decisions more than data or logic. The tech debt is overwhelming and ignored, leaving teams to patch things together just to stay afloat. Long-term employees are leaving in droves, and it feels like rats escaping a sinking ship. Management makes no visible effort to retain talent, listen to feedback, or work collaboratively with employees. Morale is at rock bottom, and most people are quietly looking for the exit.

      Unstable environment with reactive leadership

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Remote flexibility and solid benefits. Hardworking individuals

      Cons

This is an ego-driven company filled with politics that stem from the very top. Leadership operates from a place of fear, and it shows in the decisions being made. It’s clearly a make-or-break year, and no one is thinking beyond the next quarter. One good quarter and leadership is on cloud nine; one bad quarter and everything shifts with emotionally charged, short-sighted decisions. There’s also a noticeable level of disdain toward employees. When the company underperforms, leadership is quick to blame teams, saying they can't adapt or meet expectations that have been unclearly set. Employee surveys have pointed to the same root issue: leadership. You can see most of the reviews from the past year have been negative. Overall, it’s an unstable environment with reactive leadership, heavy internal politics, and little confidence that meaningful change is coming.

Good comp and benefits Pretty laid back work environment / good work-life balance Brand name is a nice plus

      Cons

No room for growth. People have been both voluntarily and involuntarily leaving the company, but I think the telling part is that there have been NO backfills, at least on the engineering side. Culture and People Ops have gone corporate. When I joined, this was not the case, and as a result the culture was something everyone really enjoyed. And maybe it's just the reality of a growing company, but I think a lot of the negative reviews lately are a result of the frustration in losing most of what made the company special. When People Ops' response to complaints is "well, you don't have to work here," they might be right, but that attitude is kind of where the culture is at now. Lack of product vision. Other reviews alluded to it, but it's just been a lot of thrash and not a lot of success or sticking to a vision we believe in. It's hard to say what the company's real mission is anymore. I DO believe they have a good play here, in the space between data and machine learning, but until they start having success in that space it just feels like we're stuck. I know that's a bunch more "cons," but the truth is that these together do not, in my opinion, make Crunchbase a 1 star company. I think they need to do better, but you can find a lot of worse companies out there. Crunchbase is just in a hard spot and crossroads right now. I hope leadership can make the right calls, even if/when they're unpopular, and navigate this ship out of these rough waters.
