What is the hiring process like at Firstup?

      Sales development representative (sdr)
      Current employee
      Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval

      Pros

Most of the roles are remote. Not business development team

      Cons

Management is slowly removing all of the benefits and changing roles. Sales is not closing new business and the rest of the org is paying for it. Hired a few new reps as hybrid and a couple of months later "changed their mind".

Thank you for your feedback. As a scale-up, we have moved at a fast pace, growing in size and structure over the past few years. As the company scales, it is inevitable we experience some growing pains and changes. We also strive to have best-in-class benefits, including free healthcare, unlimited PTO, the "fruity drink" bonus for taking a week of PTO, remote work and much more. If you have feedback on other benefits to add, talk to the People Team or give feedback in the pulse engagement survey.

      Inspiring and thoughtful leadership

      Pros

The new ELT and the many people they have brought in are putting things in place that recognize the stage of the company and are having significant positive impact on the company. There is so much talent in this organization, many tenured individuals who are fantastic and many new people who believe in the vision and path forward.

      Cons

There has been a lot of change, so for those who have gone through multiple leadership changes are still hesitant about what will come. But that is already shifting with the new strategy and vision that is being implemented.

      Gaslighting and zero leadership

      Pros

If anything, it teaches you patience and how to spot terrible leadership early.

      Cons

This job was exhausting and stressful, mostly because upper management has no clue what they're doing. Leadership is all over the place, nothing is planned, and everyone seems scared of making a decision. The goals they set are ridiculous, and everything they promised during hiring turned out to be empty words. I lost count of how many times I had meetings scheduled with C-level folks who just didn't show up, no message, no apology, nothing. Gaslighting and favoritism were everywhere, and if you didn't play along with office politics, raises never happened. Departments barely talk to each other, layoffs happen constantly, and trying to get anything done feels impossible. By the end, I was completely wiped and just done with the nonsense.

Positive experience with new leadership and a great product

      Account executive
      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

I'm still new here, one month in. But I've had an outstanding experience so far. I sell a forward thinking product that solves real problems for organizations looking to communicate more effectively with their workforce. The leadership from the CEO on down seems genuinely interested in my success, the success of the overall team, and the customers using or considering using Firstup products.

      Cons

I was initially hesitant to join this company because the Glassdoor reviews here were horrendous. Before I accepted the offer, I had a heart to heart with the hiring manager, CRO, and an account executive. And I'm so glad I did. They didn't make excuses about the low ratings. They explained how a year ago this company had some toxic leadership and people left. Since then, new leadership has taken over, and even though I didn't experience the "toxic days", I can tell things here are quite different. Just goes to show how critical leadership is to a company's culture and overall success. I don't regret joining Firstup at all.

      Not in a great place

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Benefits and compensation were strong on initial offer.

      Cons

Going through a major shift throughout the company after replacing the majority of the C-level team last year, which then turned over senior leadership at those departments. Most of these new execs brought in their own people from other companies, which created a in-group vs out-group culture in teams. Performance review standards change every year, with no feedback in between, making it difficult to plan out your career and what steps you need to take. Turnover and hiring on teams is really difficult. Despite the ARR of the company, teams run incredibly lean, the result of several layoffs post merger from a few years ago. Priorities shift constantly, very difficult to work on long term problems when most teams direct work towards short term rewards. Communication is not great within teams and across teams either. Internal adoption of our own platform is low, and information isn't in centralized places. Lots of talk about our employee NPS scores but no action taken to try and improve them.
