      "Nothing personal, just business"

      Software engineer
      Former contractor
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Skilled colleagues - High technical level of the product - Pretty good compensation - Experience working on a product with high MAU

      Cons

      - "Nothing personal, just business". I was American-style fired several months after switching teams. Informed during a regular 1 on 1 call, and 10 minutes later all my work accounts were closed. Got paid for 3 extra weeks as per my contract though, I'll give them that. Flo usually uses B2B contracts with remote "employees". They do claim that it's just a formality to avoid having too many legal entities in different countries and promise to treat you as a real employee when hiring you. But when somebody wants to get rid of you, they won't hold to that promise and terminate your contract without hesitation. Before these events, I had successfully worked in another team for a whole year without major issues and got "meets expectations" on my yearly performance review. After a year, I decided to switch teams to work on newer, shinier things. This sounded like a great opportunity. The reality was not so bright though. My new engineering manager fired me at the first chance after nitpicking everything they could find against me. - Lack of transparency. Just one example: a couple of weeks before I was fired the CEO announced that hiring will now focus on office locations only. It was unexpected to everyone including the talent acquisition team, they heard it just like everybody else at the monthly All-Hands meeting. I've just finished conducting the last interview stage with a candidate and we were ready to send them an offer (which does not happen too often), but after this announcement, we were forced to pass on them because of their location. So, everybody involved in the interviewing process as well as the candidate wasted their time. - Growing bureaucracy. The company recently formalized requirements of relocation to the UK. The requirements are pretty strict. Which overall may be understandable because of budget limitations. But the company doesn't try to put itself in employees' shoes in any way. If a Flo employee's spouse gets a job offer and another company relocates the family to the UK, Flo employee can't be transferred to the London's office if they do not meet relocation criteria. Even though no relocation support is needed from Flo side, just a hypothetical salary raise due to cost of living. Flo expects such an employee to resign and reapply for the same position, but in London, if that position will be opened there.

      Poor leadership

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Nice offices - Very talented team members - Good compensation - Great mission

      Cons

      - Chaotic decision making and micromanagement from senior leadership with employees often being blamed for poor decisions and not being listened to (despite having hugely talented team) - Bought people into the company on flexible and remote, now enforcing return to work policy 3 days a week (set days, no flexibility). - Very intense workloads with conflicting and constantly shifting requirements with people spread too thinly across too many projects

No place for the app product of quality

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent compensation. Quite often above the market.

      Cons

No straight focus, no focus for the product quality. Simply day after day “conversion based development”. And once a year - “board driven development” (“we have to demo something new to the board!”). Having all these - the users are out of focus.

Great place to continuously grow and learn

      Software engineering manager
      Current employee
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Transparent communication about current goals, bets, business metrics, wins and failures, reasoning behind decisions. All the communication is done in a respectful manner, treating employees as adults. - A lot of opportunities to take responsibility, ownership, drive bigger things forward and make impact. This is highly supported, encouraged, noticed and rewarded. - Product decisions are backed by actual performance data; non-performing features are removed to not bloat the product and the codebase. New features are built in productive collaboration with engineers, where both sides contribute to finding effective solution both from product and engineering standpoints. - Work-life balance is respected - Competitive compensation, with a reasonable framework behind it - Great people to work with and learn from - Tech stack and tooling is moving forward, never lagging behind the industry - Hands-on and approachable leadership

      Cons

      - Shifts in priorities happen; mostly because the company is reasonably fast to react to what is happening in the market and in the world. It may require focus and resilience to keep pushing bigger and slower initiatives forward.

      Mission-driven and fast-moving company

      Ceo-founder
      Current employee
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      1) Great mission and unprecedented scale. Flo helps 83 million women monthy - it is the biggest health app in the world. 2) Financially stable (the first digital femtech Unicorn with tier 1 investors) and has good compensation for employees. Nice offices. 3) Radical transparency is a genuine part of the culture. 4) Very high talent density. 5) Data-driven and analytical. 6) High-speed culture. 7) People have much agency and autonomy.

      Cons

      1) There are some very classical issues of a scale-up - processes are forming, plans may change. May feel messy at times 2) We are still not good at prioritizing and fast Time To The Market

      3

      Great people, but poor values

      Visual designer
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people are truly great: smart, supportive, and professional. The best colleagues I’ve ever had in my life. The working conditions, salary, and benefits are very good. Overall, it’s a great place to work, if you don’t take into account the cons I’ll describe below.

      Cons

The company talks a lot about how much it values PEOPLE. But in reality, that’s not the case. Of course, just like in other corporations, the most important thing is money. A number of true professionals with excellent performance were fired in a single day because the company’s priorities suddenly changed. And this happened right after the team had been giving 200% of their time and effort to producing an enormous amount of content recently. It was extremely unfair, the decision was made from the top, without consulting the managers. The reason why those specific people were chosen was never explained. Flo does not follow its own values, so I’d advise being cautious if you consider working there.

Success often tied to favoritism, not merit

      Senior software engineer
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Opportunities to work on interesting projects if you're on the right team

      Cons

      - Salary review process lacks transparency, decisions are often unexplained, and there's no clear link between performance and compensation. Very demotivating when effort and outcomes don't align with career or salary growth - Promotions and recognition tend to go to those who are more visible to CTO and favoritism rather than on actual performance or contributions - Communication from management is pretty poor overall, things are often vague, and feedback is inconsistent. Way too often the explanation for decisions is just - it was the CTO’s decision - no reasoning, no discussion, just a dead end
