What is the hiring process like at Hobby Lobby?

Phones not allowed in pocket or on you at all, must be kept in your locker. If found with phone it will be confiscated by general manager, lack of communication about how to request time off. If you ask for time off it will not apply unless you fill a request form which they dont tell you about!! And they will not call you if they think you are no call no showing, You will be left thinking theyve accepted your time off request the whole time but come into work the next scheduled date to be fired. must call manager over to buy your own items.. which can take up to 20 minutes after youve clocked out to go home, general manager will look through your phone if it is confiscated, impossible to form friendships with coworkers.. if the manager notices this they will seperate you. General manager will ask if you need time off during interview and say its fine but will inform you that you have to fill out a form letting you believe theyve written it in the system. General manager is forgetfull about hiring process (ive had to finish my hiring process a month after starting due to her not fully getting the new staff situated properly), these are all things that have happened to me, and that i have witnessed happen to other employees some of which are ILLEGAL!! Great business ran by corrupted authority. Not tolerable

They have a fast hiring process. In person applications.

They paid above minimum wage during a time when many companies were not hiring. They put quite a bit of effort into training me.

I worked there during the Covid lockdown. When the first employee got Covid, they refused to close contact any other employees, instead saying they reviewed the security footage to see if he got close enough to contact anyone. I got in trouble several times for cleaning my workstation because I was not using the correct cleaner but they also refused to give me the correct cleaner so I could clean appropriately even when I argued that I was in high contact job as a cashier. In general, their compliance to Covid protocols was all for show rather than actually considering the health and safety of their employees.

Glitter. Long hours, especially during the holidays. Expect 70+ hours a week from Thanksgiving to Christmas. No raises. Lack of training. Terrible health insurance. There are cliques in a lot of the stores creating A LOT of negativity. Hiring store managers from within sometimes leafs to animosity and under qualified people running the stores. The amount of micromanagement makes ot hard to do your job effectively. Not all stores are the same.

Can't seem to think of any. Doesn't offer weekly pay, no daily pay offered, iykyk. Great for teens or even adults still living with their parents due to the suffocating cost of living.

I personally did not have a great experience due in part that I was sabotaged from the start thanks to the retaliatory tactics of a former "boss" (a white man). They were given their orders and carried it out with with extreme prejudice. Furthermore, in their case, they gained a sadistic thrill in ostracizing, demonizing and victimizing their target. Given the cold-shoulder by coworkers and the hiring manager. Walked into the break room where the white coworkers suddenly changed the topic to guns and guard dogs, reminiscent to a segregated 1950's diner before the civil rights movement. Any given opportunity to demoralize, demotivate and degrade, they were all over it like white on rice. Leads, general managers and coworkers coercing their friends and family to take time out of their not so busy lives to target and harass minorities on the job. Coworkers and leads attempt to provoke negative reactions from minorities to fit their narrative that minorities are unprofessional/unstable therefore unfit for the job. Leads and coworkers coercing a JANITOR of all people to question the credentials of minorities as if he is CEO/CFO/hiring manager. These people will stop at nothing to target and drive out an undesirable to elect a cronyism/nepotistic candidate for the position. Don't get me started on the token minority that facilitates/engages in the nonsense as well, that is the most disheartening. Their sneaky, underhanded tactics really speaks volumes about their character. A Christian craft store in name but no other aspect. Just deplorable.

The pro is the employee discount being added on to sales going on in store.

Management needs a pretty process for requesting time off, making accommodations for those who call out or evenings that they're under staffed.

Easy work decent pay. Benefits are good. When allowed to talk employees are fun and have great attributes.

False expectations, not transparent, need a vision plan, overly micromanaged environment. Treats employees as if they are preschoolers. 8 hours is never guaranteed so you may need a 2nd job. Reason I am looking for a new job. Also, like most corporations if you are not in with the head hiring managers in ANY dept or corporate area you will never be hired. You also have to get permission to transfer to other areas, in which a manager can deter any movement. Especially, if they like you they will decline transfers.

• Most of the people you work with are nice. • Most teams work on interesting projects! • The office area is nice, considering the building is inside of a warehouse. Be prepared to hear lots of beeping and forklift sounds!

• Some teams are better than others. Mine was a fantastic team until we got a new lead. • Leadership tends to bully one person on the team in order to have documented coaching. There’s always one - pray it’s not you. • It is a revolving door for designers, and you will have the light in your soul sucked out if you work too hard. Don’t work hard enough? Documented coaching. • They only tend to hire brand new, fresh out of college designers, since they’re the ones who don’t know better. They spend a LOT of time and money going to colleges to recruit. • You are just a number to them, and they will not care if you’re unhappy. Prepare to feel very micromanaged on everything you do. • You will not have as much creative freedom as they let on in the beginning. Buyers/clients already know what they want, and you need to do exactly that. Creative people/those who love to illustrate will NOT succeed here.

Fun job, coworkers can be nice, good experience

Micro aggressions if you're black - I was only black girl working and a specific manager treated me very differently. Another coworker was hired and didn't do a good job at all and the manager would defend her and let her do whatever she wanted because she was another white woman. Low pay, if you work until close they force you to stay inside the store past the time you're supposed to clock out sometimes up to 45 mins. and sometimes they try to make you clock out first so you're trapped in there and not even being paid. They won't let individual people out everyone has to leave at the same time it's ridiculous especially for people getting picked up from work or catching the bus.
