AVOID - Poor Management and Poor Pay

      Customer support
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

You work with great people and the unlimited PTO is a nice perk with WFH options.

      Cons

Poor management, low pay, and a terrible work-life balance define the experience here. Expect constant harassment from both users and coworkers, driven by absurd and counterproductive policies. Middle management is overcrowded with people who are rude, dismissive, and seem more interested in justifying their positions than supporting the team. Getting anything done requires navigating unnecessary bureaucracy, and once delays inevitably occur, the same managers are quick to penalize you for falling behind. The onboarding process is practically useless—disorganized and lacking in real-world relevance—leaving you to figure things out on your own. Worse, you'll end up training new hires yourself, while still trying to manage your own workload. Performance is judged not only individually but as a team, so if one person slips, everyone gets dragged down and punished for it.

      Pros

      - Global team - Lots of customer onboarding sessions - Great product - World class new employee training onboarding program - Challenging but achievable targets with lucrative compensations - Unlimited PTO - International Customers - Internal workflow processes and communications are feasible - Team members are reachable, friendly, and willing to help - Constant product updates with new features, it just keeps on getting better

      Cons

      - Change is a constant, but changes done way to often can be disruptive - New tasks, or job responsibilities will be assigned taking more and more bandwidth - It's all about efficiency and time management, lots of customer meetings, and administrative tasks as well, along with new things to do - KPI, targets, change very often - not much career growth opportunities when starting in a IC role - team leaders and team structures get shuffled several times a year - but honestly, this is a great company to work for the best experience I've had working for anyone. The pay is great, the product is great, the people are great, all the internal processes whether communication, reports, workflows, operational, and yeah everything is running like a fine tuned well oiled machine

      Pros

In-office and remote job opportunities, great non-management coworkers. Solid product and brand. The culture used to be better a year or two ago.

      Cons

Toxic management (both mid- and C-level) that has no vision, enforces constant false urgency, and explains own poor planning and irrational requests with “wrong” execution. No people management skills whatsoever, all they care about is reporting good news to the higher level. No matter how much you try, you’ll never be acknowledged or praised for it. Performance reviews are meant to tear you apart, not give positive feedback. You won’t have the desire or time for career development and further training. Absolutely useless HR. You won’t know they exist until it’s time for layoffs. They will let you go in the most dry and indifferent way and you won’t hear a single thank you. The pay is lower than you’d expect and the benefits are scarce. They seem to be losing more and more good people.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great place to get experience, good to start or transition careers. Friendly, wicked smart colleagues, flexible work environment. In person, hybrid and remote options, good benefits. Product has a good reputation.

      Cons

Instability. Structure, pay and procedures change all the time without notice or agreement. Company says it’s part of a culture of constant change but it’s way beyond product innovation, it’s a continuous rushed pace that leads to a very messy operation. Everyone looks ultra busy while spitting out meaningless metrics, moving too fast to show the incompetence. Uneven workloads/poor pay. Some people are quiet quitting or doing side gigs while others work much harder or feel pressured to take on extra work. Pay isn’t always fair across departments. Pay in the US is below average, not at all competitive. Poor career development options. They rarely promote internally so not only there’s hidden low morale, you also end up with outside hires who are decision makers/managers with little knowledge of product and processes. Weak HR. HR evaluations have no purpose. HR sends all employee issues back to management, there are no checks and balances between HR and leadership, so leadership can make or break a department. And aside from a few exceptions, most of leadership is also weak, maybe due to low pay. Wasteful culture. Money is wasted due to lack of collaboration and poor communication. Also money wasted with people being paid to do busy work or nonsense that brings no value to the company or the customers.

Dear Sender, Thank you for your review. Let’s clear a few things up to make sure everyone’s on the same page. First off, about the changes: Our company’s growing fast, so some adjustments are inevitable. We get that it might not suit everyone, but it’s an integral part of our culture around here. Keeping everyone in the loop is key, so thanks for sharing your thoughts. We’ll definitely take your suggestion on board to keep things transparent company-wide. Next up, payments: We’re always keeping an eye on the job market and tweaking pay rates as needed. And as for career opportunities: Yeah, we’ve got lots of room for growth internally, but we’re also open to fresh faces with outside experience. This year, we introduced new company-wide career frameworks, a testament to the hard work of our HR team. They’re not just about gathering feedback; they’re all about helping you grow and make the most of your time here. Your honest feedback means a lot, no matter what it’s about. Wishing you nothing but the best in your future endeavors. Yours, the Semrush Team
