      Cons

Felt like I didn’t fit in as a neurodivergent member of staff. Lack of “clear feedback” on how to improve or provide mentorship to improve. Office cliques — internal group chats where people would talk about people behind their back. Forced sense of doing overtime — people claiming over 90+ hours overtime. No work life balance — constantly having to get onto help even though I was given the option to “say no”

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re really sorry to hear that aspects of your time with us didn’t meet your expectations, particularly around feeling included, receiving clear feedback, and maintaining a healthy work life balance. This isn’t the experience we want anyone to have at Softcat. We take concerns about inclusion, team culture, and workload seriously, and feedback like yours helps us understand where we need to improve. We’re continually working to strengthen our support for neurodivergent colleagues, ensure managers provide consistent guidance, and promote a positive, respectful working environment. We appreciate your honesty and wish you all the best in your future role. Many thanks, Linsey

      Pros

One of the most fun places I've ever worked. I get lots of autonomy and am not micromanaged but get planty of support. Growing opportunity for management in a relatively quick time frame if you can handle it, or you can just get your head down and grow your sales. Opportunity to make good money if you work hard, are consistent, and take advantage of your luck when it arrives. Hybrid working and flexible start/finishes times really help work life balance. I start and finish on time the vast majority of the time. If I don't it's my choice and has never been a management issue.

      Cons

The basic salary was increased but I still think it lacks. I also on principal really dislike that you have to contribute to your salary from your gross profit after the first year. The idea is that if you stay long-term and are successful you won't even feel it, but in your 2nd to 3rd year you do. Account Management is a tough role and it can take a while to find your stride. I think once you do, you're not pushed enough until you graduate from the Sales Development Program.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Excellent culture and office atmosphere. Social events and incentives make the environment genuinely enjoyable. Very good training programme for people new to sales. Softcat is one of the better places in the UK to learn enterprise technology sales fundamentals. Strong autonomy. Managers generally trust you to run your accounts without micromanagement. Flat hierarchy with approachable senior leadership. Good work life balance compared to many sales environments. Fun incentives and internal competitions that keep morale high.

      Cons

Base salary is low for a London-based sales role (typically around £28–30k). First and second year earnings can be modest while building pipeline, with commission typically limited during this period. Territory saturation has increased as the company has grown. Many of the most established accounts remain with long-tenured account managers. Newer account managers often spend significant time attempting to obtain ownership of viable accounts before being able to target them effectively. Many open accounts have historically been contacted heavily, which can make new business development challenging. Account allocation can sometimes appear relationship-driven or tenure-based, which makes it difficult for newer hires to access stronger territories. Previous new-business incentives were reduced or removed, despite continued expectations to generate new accounts.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We are really pleased to hear you’ve valued the culture, training, autonomy and work life balance during your time with us. It’s great to know these aspects have had a positive impact over the past few years. We also appreciate your honest feedback on compensation, territory allocation and early earning potential. These are important considerations and we recognise there is always room to keep improving. We will ensure these points are shared with the relevant teams as we continue reviewing how we set people up for long term success. Many thanks, Linsey

      Pros

Great company culture, very social and excellent earning potential. Own the sales cycle from start to finish so you gain good experience and build good channel relationships with strategic vendors. Also a good work life balance with flexible/hybrid working.

      Cons

Account opportunity can be tough as you have to build your own account base from scratch - easier said than done as everyone is trying to do the same.

Thank you for your detailed feedback on a fantastic length of service. You've called out some great benefits of working at Softcat which we're pleased you get to experience, for example it's really important to us that our employees have a good work life balance. We often describe working in Sales at Softcat as like running your own business within a business, giving fantastic levels of autonomy and freedom to run your account base however suits you best, alongside the substantial support and training you'll need to succeed. This gives our sales team really good experience of the end to end sales cycle as you've mentioned, but is also a challenge to have that level of ownership in a competitive environment, Although it's a challenge, we love to empower our Sales people to have that level of control within their account base, and will continue to constantly review the account opportunities for our Sales teams.
