    I worked at Softcat full-time

    Pros

No better place to gain sales experience after leaving University.

    Cons

The industry and being a VAR, doesn't bring much of a bigger mission than making great money and having fun.

    Advice to Management

Greater professional development & learning that isn't role specific.

    Pros

As I was not office based could not think of any, I am sure if you are in your early 20's fresh out of uni then this is the place for you.

    Cons

Worst place I worked for as a Technical Consultant. If I was in sales then this would probably be a 5 star review, but from my point of view I felt like an over used machine.

    Advice to Management

Do not put new senior tech consultants under the same umbrella as juniors. Be honest about the average working hours. Listen to the concerns of employees.

I worked at Softcat (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Learn how to cold call
    Great culture
    Some formal sales training
    Uncapped commission

    Cons

Terrible Basic salary for London new starts
    Slightly un-PC office culture
Problem with pay after I left

    Advice to Management

Treat young AMs like adults, don't ply with alcohol and then tell them off after for being too drunk.
More flexibility in working environment - job could have been done every now and then from home.
    More formal strategic sales training.
Stop giving recruitment a number to hit, it doesn't inspire them to recruit good potential sales people.

    Pros

    - Good sales cycle experience: From cold calling, account managing and closing.
    - Good office environment - lots of people in the same age range. And always noisy (from calling)
    - Fun: Very sociable.

    Cons

    - Poor basic: was told it was not going to change any time soon and if it did, wouldn't be much.
    - Unprofessional
    - Appalling Office Manager

    Advice to Management

Monitor the behaviours of some of your office managers.

I have been working at Softcat full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

From the day you start you are told how great this company will be and how you can achieve so much if you work hard, in your role and financially. It is completely true from your first day, you are immersed in the culture and the ethos of the company and within a few weeks you can be out meeting customers and selling.

I started straight from university with no IT background. It isn't as much an IT job as its a sales job where Softcat help you build relationships with customers and teach you to talk at a business level about IT and business strategy, then plug in technical resource to cover the more in depth IT requirements.

You can make a serious amount of money in this job if you are prepared to listen to the training and advice of others and if you are prepared to put in the time. There are also so many different incentives and prizes that you can win, just through doing your day to day job.

    Cons

The hours are fairly long, you are expected to work 9-6 but you should really be working outside of these hours as well if you want to over achieve, that being said it is not enforced.

You are not given any accounts when you start you have to find new business opportunities yourself.

I worked at Softcat full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great commission, lots of room for progression, great benefits and incentives

    Cons

Low salary for London, takes time to build commission and before that it is next to nothing in account, office environment could be more mature
