I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Adyen (Amsterdam) in Feb 2023
Interview
First round was a 30 minute interview with two of their data scientists. General introduction, project experience and reasons for certain decisions. Next stage was a take home task. Task was super niche and required a large amount of background research. I think the amount of work they expected is just evidence of the burnout culture that likely exists at the company. Spent the full week working on it and went above and beyond on parts, creating a .py script to run in a productionised environment too. Given this, they didnt respond for 2.5 weeks despite me chasing them up. Eventually contacted a DS directly who responded and HR provided feedback within a day. All in all, feedback was hugely unhelpful and respectfully disagreed with it. Main feedback was need for more EDA which when the data is artifically generated without any features names associated (X1,X2 etc.), makes little sense to me. I (stupidly) decided to prioritise the algorithm they were evaluating rather than go through the trivial steps of EDA and comparing multiple different out-the-box classifiers which feel like something you prioritise showing in more junior DS interviews. All in all, process took over 2 months which is a joke. Definitely appears that they forgot about me in the process.

Question 1
Alignment on the overall communication skills and moved to the next steps.
- Initial HR Brief Interview: casual talk - Hiring Managers Behavioral Interview: casual talk, brief background into DS experience - Technical Test: technical test they provided didn't work (the website they used crashed). I worked on it for a couple of hours in a day, then the next day it wouldn't open. When I reached out, they said they'd get it fixed and get back to me (didn't happen). The next week, I get an email from HR saying they will call me with updates, I respond but never get a call and no updates since then. I basically wasted my time talking and doing the technical interview only to get ghosted after being unable to complete their technical test due to the technical difficulties they are responsible for fixing (how am I supposed to do a test that I can't reach) Cringe

Interview
I only had one interview with a very friendly recruiter that didn't reach out to me nor sent me any message after our conversation, which she ensured had been a very good one. This is the second time I apply for a position at Adyen and I feel the HR process is very disorganized. The first time I applied, I received an email saying that they were very interested in my profile and that they would contact me, and a couple of hours later I received an automatic email that said that my profile didn't meet their requirements. That is extremely misleading and unprofessional.
