      Interview

Emphasis on the resume, not the cover letter. Had a current employee who is a friend of mine submit my resume. A couple weeks afterward, I received an email with a link to a 15 minutes, 5 question quiz that had an expiration date of three days later. I took the quiz and did not finish typing in my answers within the time frame, so I was not given the opportunity to go on to a phone interview.

      Question 1

The 15 min, 5 question quiz. It's a relevant and a useful tool for the Ampush recruiting team to use, but the way the quiz was set up (timer at the top requiring scrolling up intermittently to check time left, misspellings and poor grammar in the questions themselves making which verb goes with what noun confusing) seemed a bit unprofessional. It would be nice if it could be cleaned up a little more, especially the wording of the questions. The questions themselves were not too difficult, as long as you have a grasp of social media acronyms such as CPM, CPC, CPA, CR% and how they relate to each other. Note that the required formatting for the answers is picky; you have to answer with two decimal points for every number (not for %s) and add in special characters (e.g. $, %). Example questions below; these are not the actual questions from the quiz but very similar. Example Q #1: You are running an online ad campaign in order to drive installs of a client's application (the action). Your cost-per-click (CPC) is $0.13 and 12% of the people who click the ad will install the application. How much do you spend per action (what is your CPA)? Example Q #2: You are running an online ad campaign. Your client wants to get at least 500 people to click an ad that links to her personal website, and she is willing to pay $0.40 per click. If you fulfill the goal of getting 500 clicks, how much does the client end up spending? Example Q #3: You are running an online ad campaign for a client who wants more people to "like" his business' Facebook page. She is willing to pay $1.10 per "like". 40% of the people who click on his ad will "like" her Facebook page (this is the CR%). Your goal is to make a 20% profit margin. What is the maximum amount you can pay Facebook per click and still get that 20% profit margin (assuming profit = rev - cost).

      Interview

      1. Short, 5 question, 15 minute timed quiz focusing on marketing metrics. Review some basic math before. 2. Phone interview with a media analyst. Pretty basic interview stuff and you walk through a case study with the interview and will be asked some quantitative stuff. 3. Video Conference - Interviewed with three people. First was a quant interview. Walked through a case study answering some questions about how to approach a driver acquisition facebook ad campaign. 2nd interview was some basic interview stuff. Lot of behavioral questions but relatively simple. 3rd interview was short and basically a screening with the manager of the office, Very nice people. 4. Video Conference Case Study presentation - this was relatively difficult. 30 min presentation followed by a 30 minute Q/A with a panel of 5-6 team members. Be extremely prepared for the Q/A. 5. ??

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Ampush (New York, NY) in Sep 2017

      Interview

The interview process was comprehensive to say the least. Online test, followed by phone interview, followed by in person interview, followed by a presentation before a panel of employees. Everyone was pleasant, and helpful throughout the process. A rigorous process that dragged on for longer than it perhaps needed to in my opinion, but I'm certain it serves Ampush well. The "Take Home Quiz" was a quick 5 question skill test. If you're familiar with the basics, you should dispatch it with ease. Phone interview was standard. First round of in-person interviews was a series of three interviews, one after another. Each with a slightly different focus. Certainly a draining process from the candidates point of view. After that, you're invited to give a presentation based on a case study before a panel of 5-8 Ampush employees.

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Ampush (New York, NY) in Apr 2017

      Interview

I applied to be a Media Analyst with Ampush through my college and continued through a multi step process of many interviews until receiving an offer, which I ultimately declined. The interview process consisted of an online test (5 questions, straightforward marketing math), a phone interview, an in person interview (three back to back interviewers) at the New York office, an in person presentation (requiring a couple hours of prep), and finally an hour long phone interview with the CEO. After my conversation with the CEO, I was asked to send in my SAT scores and provide two references. Then, I was asked for a third reference (they called all three). After all of that, I spoke with HR several times before receiving an offer. I found the interview process to be unnecessarily lengthy, grueling, and not transparent. At each step, Ampush was very unclear as to what the next step would be or how far along I was. I found it bizarre and slightly insulting that I was asked to provide my SAT scores after my conversation with the CEO - seems like they could have asked for that earlier in the process if it was something they needed. I ultimately declined because the company did not seem to be a good personality match. It did not appear to be very diverse (especially gender wise). They seemed to expect 50-60 hours a week. They boast fun start up culture but I did not feel like that was truly their vibe. During our final interview, the CEO challenged many of my responses to his questions. Wasn't sure that that was really an effective tactic for getting to know me or my work style. After I declined, everyone I had met or spoken to at Ampush (including the CEO) reached out to me to express disappointment, get feedback about why I said no, and to wish me luck with the job I did choose, which I appreciated a lot. The person who would have been my boss was especially kind. It became way more apparent how much they were interested in me as a candidate only after I said no, which is a result of a confusing and lengthy interview process. I hope for their sake that they work on this, as I think that it is probably a generally fine place to work that just has some growing pains.
