I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at BetterUp (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2018
Interview
One of the most thoughtful, thorough, and fun interview processes I have had the pleasure to be a part of. After a recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, I had a phone screen, two interviews with engineers, a take-home project (well defined and respectful of the candidate's time), and a code review / debrief following the project delivery (all but the phone screen done via video chat). Following that, there is usually a day of on-site interviews, but due to timing, I did 4 of the 6 interviews via video chat (with design/product team members and the CTO) and the last 2 on-site with another engineer and one of the co-founders. All interviews were under an hour, most about 30 minutes.
It is very clear that BetterUp selects each team member with care and intention, and with a focus on alignment with company culture and values (this became even more clear to me during my on-boarding).
I appreciated that many of the "interviews" were more like candid conversations with plenty of time for questions. Throughout the process, everyone I encountered was a pleasure to interact with. They were also timely and respectful of overlapping interview timelines that often occur during the job search. I wish more companies interviewed like this!

Question 1
One that I remember is something to the effect of how I would handle a situation where I disagreed with a team decision / work direction.
Terrible interview experience. They take a looonggg time to respond. The interviewer engaged in an interrogation; asked me questions nonstop and never gave me a chance to ask questions. They use outdated tech and they overwork their employees. The interview process still involves executive leadership, which for a company of their size, is a definite sign of micromanagement. Stay away.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at BetterUp (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2023
Interview
Not a very good process. Engineering seems disorganized. Too much focus on personal development over moving the business forward. Slow to make decisions & lack of clarity on roles & responsibilities

After applying for a role on the BetterUp website, I scheduled a call with a recruiter. Unfortunately, this recruiter never showed up to our scheduled call. I was quite excited to interview with BetterUp as the company has a good reputation.
