      Alliances Manager Interview

      Aug 18, 2021

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at BetterUp (Atlanta, GA) in Aug 2021

      Interview

Positive screening interview with recruiter. At end of interview, recruiter said hiring manager had already seen my resume and wanted to meet me. Over the next 2 weeks the recruiting coordinator cancelled 3 scheduled interviews with the hiring manager. I called my recruiter with feedback that the online scheduling process wasn’t working for me, and requested a phone call meeting to sync calendars. He apologized, said the hiring manager did have conflicts but also that they were trying to arrange for an outside consultant to join since they wanted to move quickly with my candidacy and that the meeting coordinator would call, not email. I never received a phone call but 2 days later received calendar invite to schedule a meeting not with the hiring manager or the consultant but with a VP from another department. During the interview she seemed surprised I hadn’t met with the hiring manager; I explained the scheduling snafus. I did not feel we connected due to lack of clarity in questions about my background so was surprised to receive email 3 days later inviting me for a 3 hour onsite which would include a take home assessment. At this point, no salary range had been provided which was a red flag. I responded to the recruiter that I was excited to move forward but would like to see what a compensation package might look like. A day and a half went by, the recruiter called. He scolded me for mentioning the scheduling snafus to the VP and then said not to hold my breath because they had made an offer to another candidate but would reach out if the offer was declined. At this point I politely withdrew my resume from the application process. My initial red flag at being rescheduled 3 times by the hiring manager was correct. I found the whole process disorganized and chaotic. If BetterUp is so disrespectful of candidates' time I can't imagine employees are treated any better. Advice to Management - your candidates have busy lives; many work full time. Don’t string candidates along with promises of urgency and play scheduling games to keep them in the mix when you know they aren’t best fit

We're so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience interviewing with BetterUp and especially that you felt your time was not valued due to multiple re-schedules. This is absolutely not how we want to show up as a team; respect and transparency are core to our hiring philosophy at BetterUp. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We’re taking this feedback and working with the team to improve our process.
