The worst and unprofessional interview process in all of my career.
I did only the first step with the HR and fortunately I didn’t loose more time with the process.
The HR started immediately to ask me questions without neither present her nor the company.
When the interviewer arrived to the usual question for the salary and I asked the range for the position the interviewer refused to answer it and the interviewer also asked irrelevant questions to do the initial screening.
As result after I invested my time, neither I haven’t received a feedback nor the interviewer has answered to my mail.
I applied online. I interviewed at Blocket (Stockholm, Stockholm) in Mar 2022
Interview
Only had one call with a recruiter, lasted about 30 minutes. Seemed like a good fit experience-wise, but I found out early on that their interpretation of the "hybrid" office policy differed from mine. Then I got a rejection without any reason given saying that they didn't move forward with me because they moved forward with someone else (duh). When I asked for more feedback on exactly where I was lacking, I never got an answer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Just a meet-and-greet, asking about past experiences and tech stack
0. Contacted by an HR on LinkedIn.
The message claimed that “Even Blocket requires great engineers”.
1. Screening phone call, where one of the first questions was “How much do you want?”. The HR refused to continue without a tight range.
2. Video call with two HRs and a senior engineer.
3. Very easy test assignment in two parts to do at home.
4. A tech interview, with a senior engineer and a frontend developer asking to present the test assignment and following it up with basic React/js questions.
5. A meeting with the team.
6. A call from HR announcing the compensation level and an email with the offer.
After thoughts:
It was my fault that I didn’t stop the process after step 1.
Personally, I think they don’t need “great engineers” (the entry bar is quite low), nor they are willing to pay them (their offer was by far the lowest I had during the job search).
I politely declined. The base salary in the top offer I had at the time was roughly 45% higher than Blocket’s.
