      Avionics Engineer Interview

      Dec 13, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Kent, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Blue Origin (Kent, WA) in Jan 2016

      Interview

I applied and heard from a recruiter a few weeks later. He passed along my information to the software team. I had a phone screen with 2 engineers and a manager. They asked a bunch of object oriented questions which, as an EE, I couldn't answer. They decided to pass on me, but suggested I interview with the hardware team. I had a phone screen a few days later with a hardware manager who asked me very in-depth questions about a project I worked on. A day later, I got a call from HR saying they wanted to fly me down for an interview. I went down about a month and a half later (due to my busy schedule) and interviewed with a team of 4 (2 hardware engineers, 1 software engineer, and a manager). The whole day took about 6 hours, with an informal lunch break in the middle. I presented on previous projects/jobs and then interviewed with each one separately for 30-45 minutes each. They asked very tough questions. I also talked with HR for a while and got a tour of the facility. I got a phone call with an offer about a week later in which they gave me plenty of time to decide. The whole time, I was incredibly impressed with HR. They were very quick to respond and gave me all of the necessary information.

      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Blue Origin (Kent, WA) in Oct 2018

      Interview

Initial phone screen interview, im an electrical engineer, so the basic screen was about very simple circuits 1 or 2 questions, don't be worried about this. Next part was about an hour long review of my resume with my potential hiring manager, and this was much more in-depth. You should really be confident about your resume and work experience and be able to explain it competently. The last part was an onsite interview to Seattle, which was amazing, they pay for everything and they really set you up nicely. The on-site interview was the most technical interview I have ever done and it was extremely rigorous and long (about 5 hours). With emphasis on an intial hour technical presentation + Q/A. Then 4-5 30 minute 1 on 1 interviews. They take you out to lunch which is nice as well. I think overall the technical on-site does not need to be too stressful, just make sure your presentation is good and that you spend a lot of time developing it. No one is trying to grill you, just trying to make sure you're a good fit.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Transmission line theory type questions. Analog hardware and non-idealities. Basic coding question.
