BobVila.com interviews FAQs
The hiring process at BobVila.com takes an average of 14 days when considering 3 user submitted interviews across all job titles. To compare, the average duration of hiring at similar companies like BlackRock, Inc. is 14 days, Fabricated Software, Inc. is 2 days, and Apple Inc. is 21 days. Candidates applying for Editor had the quickest hiring process (on average 14 days), whereas Editor roles had the slowest hiring process (on average 14 days).
They ghosted me after two rounds of interviewing and an assignment. I found this to be quite unprofessional and a waste of my time. It's discourteous to not give a direct answer to a candidate after they have invested time and effort into the hiring process.

Interview
I wish I had read the other review before I started the edit test.
Like the other candidate said, the interview itself was easy, but the edit test was excessive. It felt a bit punitive, like a hazing rite of passage or something. I started it thinking it was a standard test, but with the actual website being a slog to navigate for research, it was quite the chore.
At the same time, I received an edit test for a similar role at a more prestigious publication (I wouldn't call the publication prestigious, just more prestigious than bobvila.com). The test was lengthy, but not nearly as lengthy as bob's, and for the hardest, longest part of that test, they offered to PAY me. THAT IS SO FAIR!
I feel like a fool for having started the bobvila.com test. I'm so glad I didn't try to finish it. I think it says a lot about what it's like to work there and how much they respect your time (read: no work-life balance).

Interview
The interview process was fairly casual. I was asked about my experience and what interested me about this position. The interview itself went well, and the interviewer was friendly.
After the initial video interview, I was told that I had made it to the next round, the edit test. The test itself was 9 pages and I was also sent a very long style guide as well as a guide to editing the specific content that was in the edit test. I spent a couple of hours completing the edit test and sent it in well before it was due. As I write this, it's been two weeks and two days since I sent in my completed edit test, and I have not heard back from the company. I'm sure that I am no longer in the running at this point, but even if I was, this huge delay in communication does not bode well for how day-to-day communications work at this organization, so I would not be interested in working for this company.
