      Frontend Developer Interview

      Jun 12, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Briza (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2020

      Interview

They reached out to me personally by email. They sent me a technical test where I apparently very good (their words - not mine). The company then invited me for an in-person interview to their offices, in downtown Toronto. I met with the CTO first - we had to walk around their offices for a good 15 minutes before he actually managed to find their meeting room. I then sat with the CTO for a good hour. It was mostly a pleasant interaction - I thought his way of interviewing was really fair and justified. I then had to sit for another hour, with another developer part of their team. That's when things started to get difficult. He was super condescending and not the type of person I wish to interact with on a daily basis. He started telling me how they don't hire "frontend developers" but "product developers". Their official website clearly advertise looking for *frontend developers* - I'm not sure where they were trying to go with this. He then proceeded to scribble illegible UI frames on a whiteboard - and seemed annoyed when asked for more clarifications about the exercice. The interviewer seemed annoyed in general at any request for clarification - not an environment I would want to be part of. I'm not sure exactly what type of engineers they are trying to attract while interviewing their candidates in such a way.

      Application

      Interview

Basic interviews and practical test, building a not-so-simple web application. I felt somewhat used since they've forked my project and quite possibly used some of my code in their product
