The first interview was a quick online call that felt like a complete waste of time. The interviewers seemed disinterested and disengaged, offering no information about the company or role until I asked. I didn’t even know what the role involved until we got to the “do you have any questions for us?” part of the interview. I had to lead the conversation just to get basic context, and even when I brought up salary, there was no effort to check if it aligned with my expectations.
A job interview should feel mutual — I was putting in effort to present myself, but they made no attempt to showcase the company or make it a two-way conversation. It felt completely one-sided.
Overall, the experience felt rushed and dismissive. I left feeling undervalued and disappointed, especially from a brand I previously respected and engaged with daily.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about yourself? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Broadsheet Media (Sydney) in Jan 2017
Interview
The application had to be submitted online with a cv and a cover letter expressing why you liked the company and wanted the internship. This was followed by an email to come in for a face to face interview which was basic considering the entry level job.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Broadsheet Media (Sydney) in Apr 2016
Interview
Correspondence via email at first then a very casual meeting over a coffee. Asked about my interests, specified the length of the role, opportunities afterwards. If I could commit to a certain amount of days per week etc.
