      No offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical in Nov 2024

      Interview

They give a set of questions based on the experience, followed by a Psychometric assessment. And then the actual interview process starts. But if you are rejected, you will never hear any feedback on why you were rejected just based on the questionnaire or the assessment.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Set of 15-20 questions based on your current role, future growth plan, related to Canonical etc.
      Answer question
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Canonical (Toronto, ON) in May 2025

      Interview

Interviewing with Canonical is an absolute waste of time. Completed the entire process, including 40-questions written interview + GIA (intelligent assessment) + 3 video-call interview + PPA (Profile Assessment) + interview with Talent Scientist + 3 more video-calls... Then, the position was cancelled without an email. Canonical have NO respect for candidates! I understand hiring priorities can change, but not notifying candidates after such a lengthy process shows a lack of respect for their time. I hope Canonical reflects on the candidate experience and improves their communication practices going forward.

      Question 1

Nothing different than other interviews, just focused on experience and skills.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical in Sep 2024

      Interview

      1. Initial CV screening Upon application submission, CV goes through auto-filter 2. Written interview Was asked to create a pdf document which is a mixture of research about the company and their products and "tell why do we need you" type of questions. Nothing complex, just based on the amount of questions to be covered in the document, it took me 4-6 hours to research and type in the answers. 3. Psychometric assessment Online test with several sections on reasoning, perceptual speed, calculus, word meaning, and visualisation . Each topic has tons of simple questions to be answered quickly and precisely. 4. Video interview#1 "Management Skills" Nice discussion with the guy leading Engineering team, they asked many relevant questions from their end, and provided some generic answers to my questions, though nothing specific about the role. 5. Video interview#2 "Field Engineering" The interviewer seemed not to be familiar with the role he has been interviewing, and did not check my CV and results from the previous steps. They did not provide clear and specific answers to any of my questions about the role itself and work in the company in general, just repeating generalised facts. The interviewer did not seem to listen to the answers. This has been the worst interview in the series, and I believe the feeling is mutual. 6. Video interview#3 "Technical Skills" Another nice discussion with the technical guy, checking on general IT knowledge and support processes. There was no specific structure or specific knowledge check (like Linux CLI commands or Python scripting etc.), All 6 steps took about 5-6 weeks. After that I've got auto-email that they won't proceed with my application further. Pros: - a few interesting bits in their recruitment process that I will definitely incorporate into my processes, when I recruit another member into my team - met with 2 very nice people whom I enjoyed speaking with :-D Cons: - The interviewers are not fully aware of the role they are interviewing for (of don't care to share details) - package is not disclosed till the end of your 20th interview, so you are kept in the darkness and don't even know whether it's worth continuing or not - the company does not have legal entities in many countries, therefore (if you are an expat/immigrant) then you will be asked to sponsor your visa yourself - you won't get any feedback on your interview progress - despite the fact that the recruitment team asks you to share your availability dates and time slots, they don't really care that much. You have 8 hours difference with the US-based interviewer? Well the guy is busy in the morning, so you will have to do your video call at night.
