I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Cart.com (Houston, TX) in Jul 2021
Interview
My interview experience with Cart.com went mostly well. The total time from recruiter reaching out to the end of the experience was about a month and a half or so. It started off with a phone call from the recruiter, an informal technical screening with one of the engineering managers, a take-home coding exercise which was refreshing, an interview with another engineering manger diving a little deeper into technical expertise (non-whiteboarding), followed by 2 more interview with non-technical leaders. Every interview I had was awesome and went really well for both sides, however, my interview process hit a snag unfortunately. At the first call with the recruiter, we vaguely discussed salary expectations on both ends without giving an exact number, although I was given a pay range. About a week after my last interview, I received a phone call from the recruiter after sending a follow-up email confirming that I previously said x amount for salary. I obliged to the amount as I didn't want to pass up the opportunity but it was then deemed too much. After another conversation with the recruiter I mentioned that I hadn't given an exact number, but she assured me I had. I then changed my salary expectation to be well within the aforementioned range but I think the leadership was scared off. In short I feel as though I may have been robbed of a great opportunity and likewise the company was robbed of a great dev due to miscommunication. Overall aside from that a great experience and would interview again given the opportunity.

Interview
Initial phone screen was fine, the recruiter discussed the role and we dug into my experience. I was concerned because the role he was describing was very specific to a certain industry than what the job description outlined. There was some miscommunication but ultimately, we resolved it. I moved on to a high level interview with a hiring manager and received quick feedback from the recruiter of how impress the interviewer was and mentioned that they wanted to proceed forward but unfortunately I never heard back after that. They ghosted me I guess.
