    Legal Secretary Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in San Francisco, CA
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Crowell & Moring (San Francisco, CA) in February 2015.

    Interview

First, interview with recruiter in Washington DC, second, interview with local office manager, third, take a test, fourth, interview with attorneys, and fourth interview possibly with more attorneys. The interview with Washington DC took some time based on the availability of the recruiter, then the interview with the office manager was scheduled quite quickly. Both were very nice people and knew what they were doing and understood the job they were trying to fill. Both were easy to talk to if you knew and understood the position. However, the testing part of the interview were tests that had nothing to do with the job itself and tested for abilities that are rarely, if ever used by a Legal Secretary, such as Power Point. There are other tests, that they could have added, such as table of authorities and motions, court questions and Adobe, which would have been more appropriate for the position. Also, because the firm had to correspond with their office located in Washington DC, the process took a long time. I was still in the interview process when I actually had another very appealing offer come in that I couldn't turn down. I did give them a chance though. Everyone at the office in San Francisco was very nice though and I would not have minded to continue further.

I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Crowell & Moring (Washington, DC).

    Interview

Had one interview with three attorneys. Very casual and friendly. Not a "gotcha" interview whatsoever. Genuine interest in your experience and whether you and the firm would be a good match.

    Negotiation

It was a huge pay raise from my last job and I did not negotiate.

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Crowell & Moring (Washington, DC) in September 2011.

    Interview

I came through the on campus interview process. After meeting with an on-campus interviewer who was a partner at the firm, I received a call back shortly thereafter. They asked general questions about my interest in the firm and types of legal work.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Crowell & Moring (Washington, DC) in November 2007.

    Interview

The interview was 6 hours long. I was interviewed by both partners and associates, some of whom were in my desired practice group and some of whom were on the recruiting committee. The partners from the practice group fell short of offering me the job in person, but gave every indication that I would be getting good news from them. When I got home, I had an email from their HR dept., sent in the middle of my interview, that I was rejected.
