I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Cruise in May 2022
Interview
Applied with employee referral. 1. Call from recruiter about 1 month after application. Asked about current employment and expected salary. 2. Initial interview with hiring manager. Asked me to say something about me taking into account he already read my resume. We talked about the position. 3. Take home assessment about using data on AV incidents to suggest business actions. 4. On site (virtual): Interviews with people from other teams about safety, programming (python) and A/B testing and systems engineering. 5. Final interview with hiring manager.

Question 1
Programming (python): create a function to return in a list the elements present in two given lists (intersection). Statistics: What test to do if want to determine if some cars are having more incidents than others (ans: difference of means). Final interview with hiring manager: What would you contribute to the team? What is the worst mistake you have done in your professional life?
The whole process was extended very long and it seemed like the team was very busy. It was also not so easy to communicate with the recruiting team. For example, emails were usually not replied to or replied to very late.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cruise (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2023
Interview
Process is typical but the recruiter I had to work with was absolutely AWFUL. She was totally disorganized, not transparent, and often fed me wrong information (the compensation, the level, even the interview topics to expect, just like blatantly wrong in some situations). She also ONLY cold called me, never scheduled meetings or communicated via email. She also raised her voice at me when I pointed out she was not transparent about some details and argued with me lol. It honestly felt so good to turn down their cheap offer.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cruise (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2023
Interview
Recruiter reached out for a phone screen; within a couple of working days, I had my second round with the hiring manager. A few days later, I had the virtual onsite which consisted of 4 interviews on the same day. The whole process was quick, and easy. I was originally impressed on how quickly they moved and how friendly everyone was. However, I would be lying if I didn't mention my disappointment of receiving an automated email with the decision of going with a different candidate. After the virtual onsite, I would expect a phone call or at least personalized email from the recruiter with the decision and feedback. In fact, the recruiter mentioned she would reach out with feedback but never did, nevertheless, overall okay experience.
