      Product Analyst Interview

      Dec 20, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Delhi Mills, MI
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Dart Container (Delhi Mills, MI) in Oct 2017

      Interview

Phone Interview was fairly straightforward interview questions with a couple of basic math questions like calculating a price after a discount. Second step of the process consisted of 1.5 hours of testing with a two hour face to face interview. Tests included a general test that had you doing as many word association, mathematical pattern recognition, vocabulary, problems as you could in 20 minutes. Second test was after the interview was a payback analysis done on the computer where you were supposed to show how long it would take to break even if a new feature was added to a product line. Some of the info given in that test were red herring and you needed to show your work through excel in a way that could be presented. The face to face interview was with the manager of the department and a senior member of the staff and was more in depth questions but nothing I would consider abnormal interview questions. How would you deal with a difficult coworker? If a big rush project was given to you near the end of the day how would you handle it? Those types of questions Last interview was with the department manager and a VP of the company and that’s where I felt the questions got more intricate and trickier. The VP definitely went through my work history and grilled me on why I made various moves and why, instead of staying with my current job, I didn’t try to get additional certifications or take on extra work to make my current position for desirable to me. I explained that I have tried to take on additional responsibilities at my current position and my current manager is not responsive. I also explained that at this time I am not able to take classes after work because I have a newborn son and my wife works as well so I need to be focused on my family. The VP did not seem to appreciate that answer as you should always be striving to improve yourself in a work setting. The last interview they definitely try to see how you will react to them challenging you on a personal level then they sprinkled technical questions that sometimes are not nearly as complicated as I thought they were. This is where I felt like I didn’t do a great interview as I sometimes answered simple questions with complicated answers when they were looking for the simple answer. I didn’t get an offer and I’m left frustrated because they knew that I didn’t have work experience in manufacturing but I feel my lack of knowledge was ultimately what doomed me from getting an offer. Also, the fact that my family will always be my number 1 priority in my life was viewed as a negative. Just because right now I need my focus to be on my family doesn’t mean that in the future I wouldn’t jump on opportunities to grow and gain additional certifications.
