There was a several month long try out session pitting me against several other candidates that culminated in a panel interview with future subordinates followed by an "interview" with the manager. The position had been promised to another individual for the length of the process and I felt as though I was wasting my time. The panel interview was helpful and that, on top of my success during my weeks of try out compared to the other candidates, made the subordinates recommend me as a future supervisor. The interview with the management wasn't an interview at all, but the manager talking the entire time.
