      Backend Engineer Interview

      Oct 23, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Files.com in Sep 2025

      Interview

Applying puts you through an automated system, each step triggering the next. If you pass their AI resume/application screen then you watch their intro video. Watching the video automates another email containing an aptitude and technical assessment. The aptitude test seems irrelevant but is full of math word problems and pattern matching challenges. The technical assessment is abhorrent however. It asks very obscure technical questions about the technologies in their stack. These answers would be relatively simple to look up, but no one actually would need to know to do their daily work. It was an unpleasant experience and a poor assessment of potential employees.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Multiple choice questions on obscure facts about various technologies in their stack.

Resume clearly states the number of years I have been working with rails 2. Job requisition asks for "experience with Ruby on Rails" 3. Rails has been out for 14 years
