I applied through college or university. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Freshfields (New York, NY) in Feb 2013
Interview
Applied through my university's career website. Made it through three rounds of interviews, was not called back for a fourth.
The HR staff was unprofessional towards me throughout all three rounds. They managed scheduling very poorly and were unclear about their intentions. It took me 4 weeks before I heard back from any HR person regarding the status of my application after I took the standard 2 week protocol before calling and emailing my HR contact.

Why Freshfields?
3 stages - HR, lawyers and a partner. Overall
the process is structured, however, technical questions from lawyers and parents can be difficult. They want to make sure you have actual knowledge in corporate and commercial matters.

Question 1
Could you describe how tag/drag-along provisions work?
Very well structured, interviewers were very friendly and approachable. It was a mix if competency based questions and questions around personal characteristics. Moreover, once they have made a decision, they reach out to provide feedback.
There was a native Mandarin translator who will ask the interviewee to instantly translate a commercial contract from English to Chinese. The rest of the interview tasks include a due diligence test.
