I applied online. I interviewed at Future Electronics (Pointe-Claire, QC)
Interview
Very positive experience that in the end was cruel. A friend who works at Future Electronics sent my resume to HR through their employee referral program. I didn`t get any response until a month later when I was contacted through an online job site for this entry level job and after a phone interview was scheduled for and interview with the hiring manager. I mentioned to them about the reference but they said it didn`t apply here. HR called back and said they had another more senior position that fit my experience better and booked me for an interview for the following week. A few days later they called to say the job was filled. I asked about the original MSR interview and he said he would have to check if there were any openings left. After a few calls I finally got through to him and he said there was multiple positions available and booked me for an interview.
The interview was with the department Manager and one of the Supervisors. They asked me one question: to provide some background on my experience relative to the job. Then spent 30 minutes selling me on the positive aspects of the position, opportunities for advancement from this role, how great the company is to work for. Then said they wanted me to go directly to the department to meet the team and shadow one of them to see what the job was like. Made it seem like I could start immediately, but I did not get the job...They never asked me a challenging question or indicated I was not qualified to do the job. They just sold me on it. It was the worst experience I have had in a job interview. Why would they do that if they were not intending to hire me? I turned down another job offer because this one seemed certain -They said I had the experience for a more senior position, and sold me on this role, why would I not expect to get it? I have heard many times that Future Electronics company does not hire people over 40, and I use this to deal with it.
My friend at Future Electronics says that they are still having problems hiring good people but they would never refer anyone after what they did to me...No worried though - I was hired for a similar position in another company 6 months ago, and have already been promoted 2 levels to become head of the department. My revenge is that I have one of their employees now working for me and am looking to recruit more.

Interview
They posted on Indeed. I sent my CV. HR called me for an initial phone interview. Then in person that could potentially be my boss (the manager) . Then when I passed that, I had to do a criminal check and give 2 references. Then I got an offer. They said the offer was non negotiable for this position (the salary) and that there’s the standard 10% increase yearly.
