    Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Gambit Research (London, England (UK)) in December 2016.

    Interview

Screening followed by onsite that consisted of 2 longer coding sessions and some talks.
One session was python and included some inter threading communication.
Was promised a reply the next day... a month passed... and I was actually optimistic...
Sent a few emails still no reply.. I actually first found out I was not receiving an offer from a friend of a friend. A bit ridiculous.
It seemed like a nice company overall but am a bit disgusted right now.

    Software Engineer Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Interview

Technical phone screen, pretty cold interviewers.
Onsite with 2 technical rounds then meeting the CTO:
    - big red flags: very cold & unfriendly atmosphere within the technical team, no time to properly discuss interviewee's background and show some social attitude, very bad technical interviewing skills (compared to *literally any* Bay Area tech company), didn't propose at any single time how to help for the travel from another country to the onsite.
    - positive aspects: people seem very autonomous and smart

Advice to the Gambit Research: this is not how you convince people from top tech companies to join your company.
Advice to interviewers: stay away, go interview to Uber/Apple/Google/Facebook/Netflix/Amazon/Lyft... instead and don't lose your time there.

    Difficult Interview

    Interview

The process was 1 month. First was a non-sense technical test with trees. Then a technical interview via phone. The person that was interviewing me asked more than 60 questions and the total duration was 1 hour and 15 minutes. They are basically looking for a graduate but the questions that they are asking require at least 3 years of experience since they cover all domains.

    Software Developer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Gambit Research (London, England (UK)) in August 2015.

    Interview

There was one phone interview followed by a Codility challenge.

Afterwards there were 3 rounds of interview questions on-site. The first one was about understanding some multi-threaded python code, then a betting/arbitrage situation and finally some functional programming / algorithms questions. I would say the programming interviews were not particularly hard, but the betting questions may be problematic if you don't have the needed mathematic background. People were very friendly all along even when things didn't turn out so well.

    Interview Questions

    • Solving a tic-tac-toe problem with dynamic programming.   Answer Question

    Quantitative Analyst Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England (UK)

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Gambit Research (London, England (UK)) in March 2018.

    Interview

Preliminary Call - with one of the key members of the team, some stats questions, not so difficult, and it's smooth
Online Test - personally I don't like this kind of test and waste of time, but I got through this.
On-site interviews - meet all the team members, they are nice, the only compliant is that the questions sometimes not clearly addressed. It leads to some confusion. But it might be well-planned.

I would suggest the company should talk directly to the candidate. My recruiter is unresponsive and do not even send me a feedback at the beginning.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gambit Research (London, England (UK)) in December 2017.

    Interview

Initial half hour phone interview discussing the role and my interests/CV. Invited to face to face. Face to face awful. Arrogant interviewers quite possibly there to fulfil a requirement to interview externally. Throughly unprofessional. Set on asking irrelevant questions to the role and contradicting material covered in the phone call. Ended up embarrassed, misled and my day wasted.

    Interview

Internal recruiter found me; a waste of time with codility test: 2 tasks, I completed the second. The first was 4 pages problem of binary trees. I found it too theoretical and not related with the role. I also think that they do not check your code, they just take the final result of codility test.

    Interview Questions

    • binary trees. find the number of visible nodes of a binary tree T given as a string.   Answer Question
