Interview
First stage was an informal video call to get to know the company and its priorities.
This was followed by two full day onsites (Oxford and Cambridge) where there was a technical round, a systems design round, a problem solving round with the CTO, a pair programming round and finally a discussion with an executive about the role. The interview process was quite smooth and they paid for travel and overnight accommodation where needed. The staff were a delight to interact with and had varying and interesting backgrounds!

Question 1
There was a question about calculating statistical measures (mean/median) with streaming data in a memory restricted environment. Systems design interview featured a discussion on building a database that meets the demands (both in storage and access) of their growing genomic data.

Interview
The interview process was friendly and highly informative. From end to end the dialog took a couple of weeks, starting with a chat with someone from the recruitment team, a longer chat with senior members of the engineering team, and finally a comprehensive interview day. Genomics were extremely open at all points, giving good background on the company and the way the engineering team worked. In the final stage I particularly appreciated the wide range of departments that were involved; from the senior engineering leads through to the direct technical leads, testing team and product management.

Notably they were very proactive about asking how you thought the interviews went, and any improvements you could suggest to the process. There's a strong culture around improvement throughout the company.
