Pros

The scientific talent here is genuinely impressive — colleagues are bright, collaborative, and generous with their time. The platform and data is fairly unique, and projects tend to be varied and intellectually interesting. Compensation and benefits are ok-ish for a mid-sized biotech, and lower/middle management is generally approachable and well-intentioned.

Cons

The company has gone through a difficult transition from science-first culture to a more commercially driven one, which is understandable, but the execution has been rough. Deadlines are frequently tight relative to ever growing project scope, which puts sustained pressure on teams. Internal communication from senior leadership is poor — recent significant structural changes were barely acknowledged, leaving people to piece things together themselves, which erodes trust. There’s also some disconnect between where money is spent and what employees actually need to feel valued day-to-day. Cost-cutting in areas that directly affect staff (travel, accommodation) sits awkwardly alongside spending on high-visibility initiatives that feel more cosmetic than substantive. It sends a message, even if unintentionally. The culture that once rewarded rigorous science has quietly suffered. Several strong colleagues have left in recent months, and the ones who remain feel the strain.

Pros

Great colleagues. The science team is exceptionally talented consisting of people who are genuine experts in the field.

Cons

Most projects are poorly planned and lack the necessary resources to succeed. Teams are expected to deliver with unrealistic timelines without adequate staffing. This results in stressful/toxic working conditions and many unpaid overtime working hours. Project managers are aware of these challenges, however, are clearly unable to convey the gravity of poor working conditions to senior leadership which has resulted in inefficiencies and low morale. Inefficiencies mean that the exceptional talent within the science team are not utilised to its maximum potential. Career progression can also feel limited, with unclear development pathways and insufficient opportunities for growth and recognition. There is a noticeable loss of talented employees.
