I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Glencore (Melbourne) in Jul 2019
Interview
It was a lovely experience. I submitted my application online and received a screening interview a few days later. After this process, I got a call from the HR and scheduled an in-person interview. There were three interviewers in the in-person interview and they are very supportive and helpful. They are also very patient to explain the role and the company.
My interview with Glencore went really well. It was a great mix of technical and behavioral questions, and I appreciated how conversational it felt overall. The process started with some questions about my background and motivation — why I wanted to work at Glencore and what drew me to the commodities and trading industry. I focused on showing that I understand how technology plays a key role in optimizing operations and decision-making at a global scale.
On the technical side, I was asked a few coding and problem-solving questions, mostly focused on logic, data structures, and understanding how to write clean, efficient code. They also asked about my experience with Python and SQL, since those are relevant to many of their systems. I explained a few university projects and an internship where I built tools that improved workflow efficiency, which they seemed quite interested in.
The interviewers were very friendly and gave me a good sense of Glencore’s culture — fast-paced, collaborative, and focused on real-world impact. I left the interview feeling confident that I’d been able to show both my technical ability and my enthusiasm for working in an environment where technology directly supports business operations. Overall, it was a positive experience that reinforced my interest in joining Glencore’s graduate program.
