      Senior Backend Engineer Interview

      Mar 12, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Glovo in Jan 2020

      Interview

I applied online for this job. The process took almost a month. I attempted 4 rounds in total. The first was a simple HR call asking for basic details, technical skills etc. The next round was a technical interview with 2 engineers over a video call. Followed by this was a codility challenge. Post that was a live coding session. I had received a call from the HR prior to this round briefing about what to expect. HR had mentioned that they understand that an optimal solution might not be possible to achieve for both coding problems that will be asked in 50mins, so recommended to talk to interviewers as much as possible and try to provide solutions to both of them. For this live coding session, I was shared a wrong zoom url and i had wasted almost 15-20 mins writing email back to the HR and getting the valid interview url. Considering this fact and keeping in mind the remaining time, i provided working solutions to both the coding problems. I also explained how the given solutions can be optimized. However, the feedback that i got was the solutions provided were not optimal and therefore they won't be proceeding further. Well, that didn't sound fair to me.

      Interview

Five interviews if I recall correctly some of them quite challenging at times too. I felt it was a bit overkill and not justified for the position to be honest.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Glovo in Mar 2021

      Interview

The recruiter approached me via Linkedin and send me some cool benefits from the company and about living in Spain. Then I was invited for an online interview with the recruiter. Before the interview, the recruiter sent me the company profile and some tech teams' profiles so I could know more about the company. I thought this interview was just an informal interview with the HR person to let me know about the company. But it turned out this was a technical screening. The recruiter gave me some questions about my experience and some technical questions as well. By the end of the interview, the recruiter gave me a chance to ask some questions about the company. I asked about some benefits stated in the message sent on Linkedin before but I felt that the recruiter little bit hesitant to share that information and kept telling me, we will share more if you're invited to the next round. At that point, I knew I won't make it to the next round.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some questions I remembered. Tell me about yourself? experience, etc? Why do you want to join Glovo? What is microservice and monolith architecture? what are the pros and cons? What is SOLID in OOP? No Sql vs Sql databases? Some examples?

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Glovo in Sep 2020

      Interview

One of my worst experiences. 1,5h interview by a guy shooting questions like a college exam. OOP questions, garbage collector, JVM, Threads vs Processes, etc. The feedback I got back by email was not true, the interviewer said I had wrongly answered questions that I know I didn’t, so I’m pretty sure that the interviewer just didn’t want to let me pass the interview for whatever reason. As said, I’ve never faced something like that in 15 years career.
