Thank you for the feedback. Our interviews are designed to select top technical talent and the best fit for the team.
The less structured part of the interview is based on the candidates resume and responses. The more structured component uses questions from the library for a given role. The consistency helps us better compare the candidates.
Developers on our team have the opportunity to expand into other parts of our system. If the candidate indicates expertise or interest in other areas like front-end, back-end, database, etc. we would ask additional related questions.
We also expect our developers to have a good grasp of software development practices and design principles. Hence the requirement to understand the basics of class diagrams.
Finally, we do use computers to help us go through the questions and take notes, but we do appreciate that some people are more comfortable with pen and paper.
