I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Guru Systems
Interview
1 introductory interview session about my overall experience and what the company did.
1 follow up session consisting of two interviews back to back that were more technical.
They were decisive and didn't mess around with the process.
3 step process beyond the recruiter screen: chat with the CPO + another product team member, "informal chat" with the wider team - more product and tech and finally a chat with the CEO.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe where you are in your career now and how Guru Systems will get you to the next stage in your career.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Guru Systems (London, England) in Jul 2020
Interview
It was one of the worst interviews that I have had in my life. I was advised to complete a home work (3 days). As a full-time professional, I suggested during the week that I would prefer doing this at the weekend. We agreed. Unfortunately, something came up in my family (health issue, emergency). I kindly let the recruiter know about it in time apologising for the circumstances and suggesting that I would complete it early next week instead, so literally within a few days. I got a response that "This is truly disappointing. Your reluctance to undertake our simple C++ test is a cause for concern and undermines our confidence in your application. So it is with regret that I have to advise you that we will not be progressing your application further. "
I mean, seriously, it is just life. Sometimes, issues happen. Clearly, not a flexible environment. They would not even accommodate emergency. I honestly recommend anyone to think twice.
I have since then got another interview proposal from them since that HR person left (or was let go, apparently was an HR contractor according to LinkedIn).
I do not regret it though as their wage was below market value even for a mid-level software engineer, what to speak of Senior.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They start with some homework programming.
They also asked some embedded questions initially, but they were really simple.
We are truly sorry to hear that you had this experience when interviewing with us. This is not a reflection of our usual practice and we do of course offer flexibility should it be required under difficult circumstances.
If you would like to get in touch to discuss this further, please do. In the meantime, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback so that we can ensure that an incident like this does not occur again.
