I applied for a Director-level role at HIMSS and was fairly quickly contacted with a request for a telephone interview. The HIMSS interviewer was around 15 minutes late, but the call went very well. She was enthusiastic about my suitability for the role and promised to get back to me in a day or two. She never did – despite me emailing her a week later. Ghosting any applicant in 2023 is inexcusable, but to do so to a senior hire who works in the same industry is laughable and a serious detriment to the organization's reputation. However, receiving a huge red flag this early in the application process likely saved me even bigger headaches down the line. Avoid.
The process was very thorough. The interviewer asked a lot of thoughtful questions about my background and specific questions on how I would handle various situations. The interviewer also shared the goals for the role and department.
