      Interview

I felt like this company had terrible communication from the outset. I found the role on Career Builder, and the company was listed as Confidential but the location was Chicago. A few days later, I got a phone call at 8:30am (kind of early from a professional opinion -some offices aren't open until 9) from one individual, and a follow up email from another person. After a bit of confusion on my end, I figured out that it was the Career Builder role that I had applied for (it was not made clear that they had gotten my resume from Career Builder). After a bit of Googling, I found out this company is based in Glen Ellyn. Glen Ellyn, a town in the suburbs that is almost 30 miles away from Chicago. I didn't want to be unprofessional so I called them back. My call got dropped a couple of times, and the person helping me got impatient with me. After finally getting a good connection, our conversation lasted all of 30 seconds after I explained to her that because I don't have a car it would be difficult for me to get out to Glen Ellyn from Chicago; she didn't even start with the company spiel or anything. Honestly if the listing had been accurate and clear to begin with I wouldn't have applied to a position that I couldn't commute to. The entire experience was confusing and I got the impression that nobody liked working there and that the internal communication was poor. I also had no idea that this company was about selling products at Sams Clubs (an indication of how poorly their website and job listnings are crafted). For any serious professionals looking for a real career in marketing, I would stay away.
