The first round of interviews was with the Dean, interim department chair, former department chair (still employed but in a different role), HR manager, and Accelerated Pathways director. There was a 15 minute teaching demo -- I focused heavily on nuances and practical applications instead of explaining the textbook material, and that went over very well. There were only about 7-8 questions and the whole interview was only 45 minutes.
The second interview was with the department chair, Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor of Academic and Resource Development. It was very informal and talked mostly about culture and goals for the campus. I used a lot of stories and asked questions about diversity, plans for future initiatives, and opportunities to get involved with mentorship and student success.
I was offered the position even though I only have two years of classroom experience and have worked outside of the field of study for several years. I focused heavily on my passion for working with students and understanding the challenges of non-traditional students, and expressed a lot of appreciation for the Ivy Tech mission. I mentioned specific student success programs that I was impressed by and wanted to be involved in, asked lots of questions about how they fostered student success and invited faculty to be involved with initiatives, and expressed that I wasn't interested in a research or tenure position because I valued the role of the Community College. There was a huge pool of candidates with a lot of classroom experience, but understanding the mission got me the job.
