      Business Development Graduate Interview

      Jun 21, 2026

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at KPay Merchant Service (Melbourne) in May 2026

      Interview

The interview process consisted of three stages: an initial conversation with HR, followed by interviews with the Sales Manager and broader hiring team. Discussions focused on business development, sales capability, customer acquisition, resilience, and previous experience in client-facing environments. While the interviews themselves were professional and conversational, the overall process felt disorganised. Interview times were rescheduled multiple times, requiring flexibility from the candidate side. After completing all three interview rounds, there was no communication regarding the outcome despite multiple follow-up emails over several weeks. A response was only received after escalating concerns to the Head of Talent Acquisition. The feedback provided suggested the company was seeking candidates with prior direct door-to-door sales experience performing a similar role. This appeared inconsistent with the position being advertised as a Business Development Graduate opportunity and was not clearly communicated during the interview process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview questions focused heavily on sales aptitude, business development capability, resilience, and motivation. Topics included previous sales and customer-facing experience, handling objections, approaching prospective clients, building relationships, achieving targets, and reasons for applying to the role. There were also discussions around career goals, adaptability, willingness to learn, and examples of working in fast-paced environments. Candidates should be prepared to discuss real examples of influencing customers, generating business opportunities, overcoming challenges, and demonstrating a strong commercial mindset. The interviewers appeared particularly interested in assessing confidence, communication skills, and suitability for a target-driven sales environment.
