Senior Systems Analyst/Digital Architect E-commerce Development Interview

      Aug 29, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Milwaukee, WI
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Kohler Co. (Milwaukee, WI)

      Interview

The company and the recruiters are completely unprofessional. They wasted my precious 3 months of time. On 3/19, a Kohler recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and said they have a position for Sr. Systems Analyst for Chicago. He said we are in process of opening an office in Chicago so this position would be based out of there but until the office is set up, it would be a remote position but this position would need occasional travel to its headquarters in Wisconsin. He said they have to close this opening within a month so I gave slots for next 2 weeks. The hiring manager calls next day and asked me some technical questions once he was satisfied, the recruiter scheduled me for another 5 interview rounds wherein 2 were technical while rest were with leadership and HR manager each lasted for 1 hour. Once the interviews were finished by 4/07, the recruiter went missing for the next 1 month without providing any feedbacks and did not bother to respond to my texts or emails. After 1 month when he woke up from sleep, he informed me that I am selected for this position but before they can internally finalize anything, he wanted me to confirm that I am still interested. I said yes and he promised to get back within 2 days and to my fear, yet again he went missing in the universe without returning my messages/voicemails and emails. After 2 weeks on a fine Tuesday evening, he called me and said that a senior HR will call me by end of this week (coming Friday) with an offer and lied that he did not ever receive any messages or texts from me (I knew it was an utter lie because I did see a read receipt on all the imessages on the same number from which he texted earlier.). The senior HR did not reach out to me for another 2 weeks. When she called,I asked her that why are they taking so casual approach even though I was told in the beginning that the hiring has to be closed within a month and by now we easily spent more than 2.5 months and I still don't know where we stand within the whole process. She quickly apologized and played a card of presenting the offer. They offered me the designation of DIGITAL ARCHITECT E-COMMERCE DEVELOPMENT (yes, it was different from the one the position was opened but she said this will be the new designation for the role of Sr Systems Analyst) but the compensation was not up to what I was expecting so I said please send me the offer in written and I will think and respond. To this, she said KOHLER DO NOT provide a written offer or would send an email or text with any offer details unless you orally accept it. I had to literally write down each and every detail on the paper. She scheduled another call for the next day morning to touch base. She called me up the next day and I told her that the offer is less than what I was expecting so I countered the offer and said I am still willing to renegotiate if you or your team think otherwise. The main thing that I did not like in the offer was that they wanted me to accept the clause of 2 years of retention or pay USD 15k. After this call, I did not hear back from them for another month and they did not respond to my calls/msgs/voicemail/email again. After a month she comes back apologizing and says, we have hired a senior manager and now if you got hired, you will report to him so he wanted to interview you again for another round to make a decision. I was furious after hearing this and lost my mind for few seconds but at the end agreed for it. I guess it would be FIRST time in history where a person after presenting an offer was interviewed again. After this interview, she never came back again and did not respond to my emails ever. I guess their strategy of not giving a written offer was a gimmick so that they can keep the control in their hands. Summary of my experience My takeaways from this experience : ============================= 1). Kohler Co is a bloodsucker like a drug dealer who will give you hopes like a drug to make you get addicted so that whenever they call and say anything you get hopeful and agree to what they want. 2). Kohler Co lacks transparency and professional people or the company itself may be promoting and preaching unprofessionalism. Either way, it's not worth your time. 3). In the future before starting any talks to any employer, I would ask if:- I qualify their selection process will they release a written offer or they would need my oral acceptance before they can send anything in written. This is very important as this will help you to determine if the company is HONEST and how much they respect a candidate who is aspiring to become a part of their organization. If they have any kind of retention clause, if, yes then how much is the amount? 4). If HR or the company is not responding to your emails/texts again and again, probably it's not worth your time and energy.
