After finished all 3 rounds of interviews, hr emailed it is an offer only pending manager approvals, and asked me to wait. So I turned down some interview opportunities, but I never heard anything from them after one and half months, even emails they do not reply. The next time I checked, they say sorry you did not pass the next round of hiring process. Well, I guess there is a reason that Lazada got low ratings at Glassdoor...

The hr girl was quite polite and friendly, called me one day before phone interview by VP of DS team, the VP was quite nice too, asked some background questions, then going into online coding session. The Python question actually not hard, but I have immersed in ML for about two years using Python, forgot some basic list syntax and method(keep getting None type error message), consequent of using pandas Dataframe quite often in ML lol, sort method I used sort_values which is used for Pandas DF method, lol, well this is my problem not paying too much attention to some basic Python knowledge although this type of function 99.99% won’t be used in Machine Learning. After that, what surprised me was that the subsequent questions are all irrelevant to Machine Learning, neither any question is related to the job description and job requirement, Guess what? what is T test, P value calculation, difference of one tail & two tails test, pmf of Poisson distribution. Given I specialised in Statistics during my undergraduate study, If these kind of question were asked 0-12 months after my Statistics module taken in Year 2 which is 4 years ago, I would be very happy. These question would be too easy for me to talk for an hour, buy guess what? Yes, I have forgotten those things, just able to recalled some pieces of memory and answered, in my opinion, very badly compared to what I knew about these concepts when I was in Year 2/3. Did you guys realised something? Yes, this is an interview for Machine Learning Engineer and all those these question are totally not related to Machine Learning. Weird? I don’t know, maybe those are some common senses for Machine Learning, in their opinion? None of these concept is related to Job Description and Job Requirements of Machine Learning Engineer Position stated by Lazada. I think they want Data Analysts more than a specialised Machine Learning Engineer. This is really my thought after the phone interview. Although the decision hasn’t been made by recruiter, I think I ruined this interview, all things prepared beforehand became useless and only some memory of these concepts......
