I applied in June. Process ended in August... I had to interview with a recruiter, take a fairly simple assessment, submit three editing work samples, and then have an interview with an actual employee that would be the first of a couple, I think. The employee who I was supposed to interview with missed the interview, then went on vacation for a week, so we had to reschedule.
My background is in print media journalism, and Newsela is obviously an online platform. A lot of my experience directly translates to what Newsela does, e.g. selecting content, editing content, using a CMS, publishing a correction, and knowing what social studies is. Social Studies and what goes into newspapers are very akin. Toward the end, I felt pretty discouraged and was very confident that I wasn't going to get the job, so I think I just said whatever.
The interviewer seemed extremely skeptical that I could understand any of the words coming out of her mouth. Her feedback: I should've researched her before the interview.
Hope this helps you in your job search!
