      Data Center Technician Interview

      Apr 15, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Southfield, MI
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Nexcess (Southfield, MI) in Mar 2017

      Interview

About two weeks after I first sent my resume, I was contacted by one of the managers to set up an interview. I interviewed with the two managers who oversee the position. The interview was pretty relaxed and seemed to fit the corporate culture of most tech companies. Questions were evenly split between standard interview questions, and specific questions to get a feel for your knowledge of Linux and server technology. It should be pretty straight forward for anyone who has experience building computers and some basic understanding of the Linux command line. Side note, the job posting mentions they require you to get a Linux certification within 60 days of employment, but when I asked about it in the interview they said that for this position that's not necessarily required. Although it will get you a bonus.

      Question 1

When you first put a server online, and the network connection is significantly slower than it should be, what would be the first thing you check to fix it?

      Question 2

Using the command line, how would you view all the files in the current directory? (the only Linux-specific question the asked)
