I applied a few years after interning there. They called me from a blocked number soon after I applied. One girl called to schedule a time for someone else to call to schedule the interview. The owner then reached out to me on LinkedIn and told me to expect an email about scheduling an interview, even though I already had a call with her team to do so. They didn’t email or confirm in any way, and left no contact info until after I reached out to the owner on LinkedIn again.
At the interview, it was painfully obvious the employees I mentioned were great to work with left under bad circumstances. Interviewed by the owner and a manager at the same time, but the owner kept talking over the manager, making it hard to know who to address. Not a single employee or client had been retained in the less than 2 years time frame. They didn’t know which role they were interviewing me for, asked vague questions, and couldn’t answer mine. Couldn’t give examples of specific tasks, clients, or even industries. Told me I’d have to work overtime if needed but I wouldn’t be paid for it. Told me I’d have to stay late if needed even on the nights I made it clear I had grad classes.
One of the most uncomfortable interviews I’ve ever experienced, and I could myself lucky I didn’t hear back from them. They never followed up after the initial in-person interview, and since stay-at-home orders went out a few days later, I discovered they closed the role without hiring.
