      Program Rotation Associate Interview

      May 17, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at One Acre Fund in Mar 2017

      Interview

First round interview was with People Operations in NY. Typical competency interview, with strong focus on leadership skills and the usual tree-planting example. Next round was a situational test where I had to develop a solution to a data collection issue, and list what tasks I would do having been assigned a temporary Logistics Manager position. The next interview was with a field office, 1.5 hours long and very intense, including a case study on expansion of OAF operations into neighbouring communities. I would say they focus intensely on leadership skills and experience, so make sure you have tangible examples of how you have effectively led a project/team. This was what I believe was my main area of weakness. The overall experience was average - could be better in informing candidates they were unsuccessful (v slow response) & no feedback given.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Tree-planting exercise: what steps would you follow to scale up a tree-planting program?

      Question 2

What steps would you follow when expanding OAF operations into neighbouring farms?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at One Acre Fund

      Interview

Excessively lengthy, repetitive, and slow. However, the questions and process are useful in the sense that they force you to truly analyze yourself and what you want. The process made me realize a need to take an online course which I did and am still benefiting from now though I didn't get the OAF job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you go about setting up a new office/operation in a new country? Something about a tree planting project.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and for the time you invested in our process. I am sorry to hear you felt the process was too long and slow. For more context, our process is deliberately thorough and a bit unusual. We have published more information about our hiring process so that candidates know what to expect upfront (https://oneacrefund.org/work-with-us/applying/). Our goal is to help candidates understand the work they would be doing, and for us to learn how they would perform in the role – and I am glad to hear that you found parts of the process helpful to you in your professional growth. Thank you again for your feedback, and best of luck in your future. – Kali Bell
