      Java Developer Interview

      Mar 20, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Amsterdam
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Payconiq (Amsterdam) in Mar 2018

      Interview

      1. Initial HR interview. 2. Offline technical assigment. Nothing special about HR part. Just normal talk. She will advertise the company and that is all this interview is about. Then I had a technical assignment. I would say it's a pretty simple one. I can even quote the text: "We would like you to create a java based backend application using REST." There were no particular business requirements. And they said don't make any assumptions. Another thing was written there: "Treat this application as a real MVP that should go to production." They said that it takes around 8 hrs. And NICE TO HAVE a simple frontend as well. I implemented the assignment without frontend part since I'm a pure backend developer and was rejected. The reasons were: 1. The application is too complicated for a small project. But why they say that I should treat an app as it will go into production? Do They release unextendable HelloWorld apps? 2. Some business logic didn't work as they expect. Here I want to emphasize that there were no clear requirements. Moreover, the behaviour of the things they complained about was documented on GitHub. 3. No java-docs. Here I 100% agree. 4. One integration test was failing. I agree with that too. Since some setup was required. I haven't explained that properly. So guys, if you are going to implement this assignment, provide JAVA docs and do the dumpest and simplest implementation. That is my suggestion.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Payconiq (Amsterdam)

      Interview

I received HR interview I did it well then they submitted me the assignment. I did assignment with in a week with following technologies. Java, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, MYSQL, Maven, GIT, Docker, Swagger, JaCoCo for code coverage, Checkstyle, Unit Testing with 90% coverage I set Jacoco to fail if coverage is less than 90%. For an assignment where you are not sure if you will reach next step or not doing that much I thought was enough, can you guess what happened next I received an email after 3 weeks that unfortunately we will not be moving to next step based on the assignment submitted. They did not tell me the clear reasons why my assignment is lacking. I think they didn't see the efforts that I put behind the assignment I wasted my weekend for it to listen this after 3 weeks of review. I would recommend everyone not to waste the time.
