      Office Manager/Operations Manager Interview

      Aug 12, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Lisbon, Lisbon District
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Paymentwall (Lisbon, Lisbon District) in Jun 2016

      Interview

About 10 days after I submitted my application I received an email inviting me to a face-to-face interview within the next two days and asking me to do a quick online personality test and send them back the result. I sent them back the test result and scheduled the interview for the next day. Email feedback was always pleasant and quick, although I only incidentally learned that the person who was going to interview me was not the one who contacted me. I learned this after asking for a direct phone contact in case I needed to warn them if I was running late. I got there about 15 minutes early and was immediately greeted by my interviewer and offere. A few minutes later our interview started and lasted for a little over an hour. The interviewer was from the Kiev office, so the whole process went on in English. He was friendly, informal and interested, despite appearing quite tired. he explained to me that they were still getting the new office up and running. He suggested that maybe my experience and skill set would be good for the position of Operations Manager and if I was interestd in that we could take the chance of having the Operations Manager from Kiev there too (he was flying back to the Ukraine the next morning) and talk to him. The second interviewer came to talk to me. The approach ws a little more "business" but still informal. He gave me a lot of freedom to ask questions and get answers about more concrete aspects of working at this new office. Overall, the intervew process took about 2 hours and seemed to me to have gone pretty well. They seemed interested in what i might have to offer and I was eager to learn more details. The following day I got an email from the same person who originally contacted me, letting me know that unfortunately there was no fit. I confess I was surprised, as it didn't seem to make sense to spend 2 hours of two interviewer's time if there is no fit - not for the position i originally applied for or for the one the interviewer suggested. A few days later, I learned through Glassdoor that the role has been filled. Overall, I think their heart is in the right place, but communication and processes need a little work for the sake of clarity.
