      Marketing Graphic Designer Interview

      I interviewed at Quandoo

      Interview

It was a 3-part interview: an over-the-phone 30-minute initial interview with the HR, then an on-site with the Head of Content, and finally a test assignment. The phone interview was good, a light-hearted conversation with the HR, which allowed me get to know the company and its goals, as well as the HR to ask me the questions they were interested in. The on-site was with the Head of Content only, because the Head of Design was away and couldn't participate. The interview was generally fine, however it felt that the interviewer was distracted, and some of the questions were asked for the sake of asking. Apparently, they were having an all hands that day, so I can understand the distraction, but still we could've make the interview on a different day. All in all, it lasted for about an hour. The third part, which is a test assignment turned out to be quite a disappointment. The task itself was fine, a fair assignment to see whether a candidate can do their job. During the on-site interview which was on Wednesday afternoon, I was told I would receive the task later that day, so we set the deadline for Friday of the same week. However, I didn't receive the task that day. On Thursday morning, I emailed them asking about the task. They said they'd sent it, which in fact they didn't as they noticed later. Eventually, the task was sent, on Thursday afternoon. I asked to reschedule the deadline and make it Monday because of this hiccup and I had other commitments too. They extended the deadline till Sunday, which I didn't want to argue as they mentioned they were looking for a person to join urgently. So I completed the task on time, and was expecting for them to get back to me "with some feedback as soon as possible" (citing the email from HR). It turned out that "as soon as possible" was a week later although I followed up half way, but my email was completely ignored. I also received no feedback whatsoever. Instead, a week later I got an automatic generic email, saying they've decided to go with another candidate. In return, I asked for the feedback from them, because I do believe that it's fair, if you expect a candidate to work on the assignment and spend their time, you should spend at least 10 minutes of yours on a feedback for them. As previously, I received no response whatsoever.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about your design process. How do you behave in a conflict situation? How are you with giving and receiving feedback? Do you follow up on how your work performs? How would your colleagues in your previous workplace describe you?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Quandoo (Berlin) in Jul 2018

      Interview

I applied for Quandoo in Berlin and I received an email the next day telling me that they would like to call me via phone in the following days. I was called within the next week. From the first moments of the call, I realized that it will be very difficult. By this, I don't want to say that the interview itself was difficult, but there were some technical issues that did not let me understand and respond to the questions properly. Basically, from the first moments, I told the interviewer that I will probably not understand so much. Why? Because the interviewer was calling me form an open space office where there was a lot of noise in the background and there was a lot of echoes as well. I know this wasn't the interviewer's fault. He was very kind and tried to repeat as much as I needed, but somehow it was all in vain. It was very frustrating for me to know that I could have done much better if the conditions were different. Even though the phone call was a total fail, the interviewer told me that I would receive another email in the following days, an email that will contain a test that I will have to work on during 5 days. Instead, I got a rejection email.
