I interviewed at Refinery29
It was a good casual in depth zoom. I felt comfortable and heard. The interviewer listened well and asked good questions that were curated specifically for me. I appreciated her taking the time to speak with me and actually reading through my resume.
- How can you help us?

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Refinery29
Zoom interview with two editors. Started off asking me to tell them more about myself, asked about writing experience and how my experience related to this specific role. They explained a bit about what the role looked like.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Refinery29
HR representative from the company reached out to me and we scheduled an initial phone call. I moved on to Zoom interview with hiring manager. Shortly after I was sent a lengthy edit test to complete. The edit test was long but standard. Upon sending it in, I was ghosted by the company for over a month. I sent 2 follow ups after 3 weeks of not hearing from anyone regarding the role, each about a week and a half apart. I eventually reached out to hiring editor who informed me they moved forward with another candidate. This is the second time this brand ghosted me after interview / edit test process. Given the time consuming nature of these edit tests, I wish the HR reps gave the respect to send an email informing the status of your interview process. Frustrating, to say the least.
- Do you have freelancer relationships you can bring to this role? Why Refinery?

My interview process was so smooth and approachable. I was traveling outside of the country at that time with a time difference. The recruiter was really accommodating with my situation and all of the questions are fair. Overall it is a great experience.
- Basic behavioral questions. Walk through resumes.

HR felt messy throughout the process. I had to constantly follow up on next steps and many times felt ghosted. At some point, I felt anxiety because HR would say I was a shoe in and then the next minute there was a delay. In many ways, they hired based on popularity. I can say that speaking with the EIC was a good moment in the interview. Other interviewers throughout the process felt "we're in, you're out" and HR simply shrugged it off.
- General questions, an edit test, and more interviews.

The interview was with the head of post, an art director, and a copywriter. They were unenthusiastic and the head of post was on her laptop the entire time. They didn't ask any memorable questions - I was in/out in 30.
- I shared my portfolio and walked them through my work & experience.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Refinery29 in Apr 2021
Very relaxed. 1st round was with the director and the second was with the person who would eventually train me. 3rd round was just a brief phone call to discuss pay expectations
- Tell us about yourself and your experience.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Refinery29 in Mar 2021
I had a great interview that I was actually recruited for by request of the EIC/team. But then, despite the team requesting the outreach to me- when the recruiter wanted to move forward, they decided that having a freelancer suddenly become the boss of a team was going to be an issue with the employees. The reason they are searching OUTSIDE of the company is cause they need diversity and inclusion, which is my niche. So it was very disheartening and felt like they just wanted to say they interviewed a Latina.
- My work history, if I have ever been in charge of a team (I have), what do I see when I look at the site that I would change, what would I bring, my history with freelancers to bring aboard, etc

I interviewed at Refinery29
They asked basic interview questions -- mentioned they operate like a startup so appreciated the transparency. They moved fairly quickly which was nice but the interview process was a bit disorganized, as I had to meet with 1x extra person because the original person I was meant to meet with was busy.
- Are you okay with working in a start up like environment?

Anonymous Interview Candidate
I interviewed at Refinery29
Started with a phone interview to gauge my experience with writing and editing. Asked the normal questions and was very responsive when I asked questions as well. Offered insight into the position as well as what the new employee would be doing on a daily basis.
