      Sales Associate Interview

      Mar 26, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Long Island City, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Rug & Kilim (Long Island City, NY)

      Interview

A day after submitting my resume, I received an initial screening call and was scheduled for an in-person interview. They had me wait in the main room, which was cluttered, dark and dirty. I could also hear all the conversations (they have some business problems for sure) as the employees all sit at a shared center table, working elbow to elbow. The interview started a half hour late and the owner was condescending and rude. His main focus was hiring someone who will never leave the company as he "did not want to invest in people that will leave after three years." He apparently did not want to waste his time and wanted for me to promise him that I will stay there and won't look for other opportunities. He must not know that to keep employees working at your company, you must keep them happy. If you treat people right and pay them accordingly, they will less likely look for other opportunities. This was immediately evident and I could tell this place was a revolving door. He also kept asking "how can I use you" and "why should I hire you"? It felt incredibly uneasy and unprofessional. Also, this is not a remote position like was stated online. I ran out of there and was disappointed in wasting my time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why should I hire you? - asked three times Why should I invest in you? What makes you a good candidate? Will you be working here in three years?

      Interview

The process was casual, I went to lunch with the owner and editor. The questions were pretty standard until the owner felt it was appropriate to make pre-conceived judgments about my character based on 20 mins of conversation. Making remarks like, "I'm scared of you" and "You seem like you always need to be right."

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      If I was willing to work 60 - 70 hours a week with a non-liveable salary.
