      Product Manager Interview

      Aug 9, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Samsara in Jun 2018

      Interview

I applied for two PM positions at this company within 6 months. The first application went to silence after providing availability for phone screen. The second application actually went through to the end. In total, there are six rounds: recruiter screening, phone interview, onsite, take home exercise, EVP interview and meanwhile contacted my reference. I am under the impression that they were figuring out the process on the fly. Some of the interviewers are not prepared and engaged at all. For example, I had reschedule one of my interview due to no show. The same interviewer was late (10 mins for 30 min interview) for the second call and he apologized for the noise for hauling printer in the hallway. Another guy came unprepared, asking a bunch of PM interview mockup questions and apparently he was not interested in my answer since he kept on looking outside the window. The take home is not bad. However it asks you to spend more than 4 hours to do a market research presentation deck and a feature design writeup. This is apparently unrealistic. There is an email to ask clarification questions. However, i did not get any response. I dislike the interview with the EVP. Apparently he has a short attention span. He expects you to answer any questions in two sentences, otherwise you got cut off. It is a lot of work to go through their process. In general i feel that they do not respect your time. There were too many people involved in the process and many of them asked for the same questions. You are also expected to put in a lot time in their homework. Make sure you only give the reference after speaking to the last person they want to you meet. I do not feel being respected during the process. My reference came back to me saying there are no issues from their discussion with Samsara. However, i did not get an offer in the end. What makes it worse is that no one cares to have a conversation with me. The only thing is a text message from the recruiter saying they are not moving forward. I have interviewed at approximately 50 companies during my entire career. This is absolutely the worst.

      Question 1

What is your favorite web application? What features attract you? How can you make the product better? I absolutely hates these three questions to be asked in a Sr PM interview.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Samsara (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2025

      Interview

They would ask you basic questions in the JD, Learn IT Ops and how technologies like cloud and data are solving problems. The HR staff are friendly but they would test your knowledge of the job

      Interview

Good and positive experience. Walking thru the process was very useful. Initial screening focus based on the experience one had. And feedback provided as a follow up. Enough time was provided to the candidate to answer the questions and ask any clarifications or follow up queries.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Samsara in Aug 2025

      Interview

Extensive process involving many rounds - recruiter screen, hiring manager screen, take-home case, interview loop/panel with live case and behavioral, and then exec call. The exec I spoke with was not prepared for the interview and the call itself felt very disorganized. In my experience, the only interview that truly mattered was the exec call -- the rest of the rounds, case study, etc are a lot of time and effort for very little return, no matter how well you perform.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Most questions are behavioral "tell me about a time when X" style questions, just like Amazon's leadership principle-based questions. Follow the STAR format and you'll do well.
